So I have a stripped lower. Bushmaster. I already have an AR in 5.56. I would like one in 308 also, that’s for a later time. Browsing ya ole interwebs, I have this idea of a 7.62x39. I have a SKS so I already have food for it. I have brass, dies, and Hornady 7.62 cal .310” 123 grain SP pills just no powder yet. I also have steel surplus to the tune of about 500 rounds. Do these rifles function well in this caliber? Also I have never “built” an AR pattern rifle before. I hate it when people say they built something, when in fact all they did is assemble it. I found what I think is a deal? Complete rifle kit, no lower, no glass for 495.00. This will just primarily be a fun type gun, I don’t need to be able to hit dinner plates on the moon. But I would expect acceptable accuracy at say 100 yards? What say ye AR experts? Let me have it.

Some people hate em. Say they never run. Some people love em. Never an issue.

I have one put together with cheap as possible parts not one thing specific for the round except bolt face and barrel. Only been fed tulammo and aside from an occasional dead printer. It eats em up just fine. Up over 1k now.

It'll keep most rounds on a 4" plate at 100yds with irons. I believe it'll do really well with a scope and good ammo, just never cared to try.

There have been several threads about AR47's here. I will try to find a link.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t see to much about them.

I have often thought about just buying the CMMG Mutant, but haven't quite done it yet. It isn't cheap, but gets good reviews and seems nice. Wonder if you could buy their lower and BCG, then just assemble the rest yourself? Ormisn't it even worth it at that point?

X39 AR’s work fine with a little extra attention in important areas. The receiver face needs to be lapped; this trues the interface between the barrel and receiver. It helps prevent side load on the smaller bolt lugs. I’ve only had one factory upper that was completely true, and that was a Mega. Lapping tools are available from Midway and other stores for $20-$30, and take about 10 minutes to true a receiver chucked in your drill.

Another important area is magazines. C Products Defense revised their magazines a couple years ago and they work well. They are curved to work with the x39 cartridge profile, and they’re worlds better than the old straight mags.

Trigger is important also, you’ll need standard mil spec springs to ignite hard Russian primers; I’ve never needed anything heavier. PSA has a NIB trigger that’s on sale quite often for $30, and it’s very smooth. They also have a nitride mid gas 16” barrel for $100 that’s pretty accurate. I’ve got these barrels in mid and carbine gas and have no complaints. My most accurate x39 barrel is an ARP Scout melonite, and it’s produced .625” groups with my handloads.
