What's the "good" , "better" , "best" of Bolt carrier groups?

I'm pretty sure Nickel Boron is at the top of the list. What's the others as far as quality; Nitride then Phosphate?? I know to have MPI tested. Anything else?

DS

I've got a nickel boron bcg in one of mine and I absolutely love it. The difference in smoothness is worth the extra money

I like to make sure the BCGs have been individually HPT/MPI'd, not batch tested. C-158 bolts, properly staked gas keys...there's a few things I look for

I use NiB BCGs shooting suppressed but got them before Nitride BCGs were out in full force. NiB starts out shiny, but after a few high round count range trips, it'll turn a slick dark grayish-brown.

Fathom, Cross Machine and Tool, BCM, and Rainier Arms are also good brands

Depends on use.

But imo, JP makes the best carriers generally.

What makes JP carriers "the best, generally"

The high quality material, high standard of finish and specs, innovative design, proven through competition and heavy use over and over.

Just my opinion.

Edit: I am talking about competition carriers.
I have no experience or opinion about military stuff.

I believe Aero Precision makes SAA uppers and lowers. Maybe that is where they source bcgs.
That's what I was wondering...Cause Aero does make their uppers/lowers

Prob a quality unit then

Thanks

Curious what you feel is "best" and why?

Not sure they make them. But I've had two Aero bcgs, as well as Spikes and BCM.

They seemed almost exactly the same to me. Good basic milspec bcgs. I sold the BCM as people seem to pay more for them. The Aero was cheapest and has performed really well.

I listed the requirements I look for. Many different brands have those qualities. I didn't say one was best out of them

Mostly the same I look for. For the record, I noted what I thought was "best" because the OP used that word. So I thought "when I go to a 3gun match, what do I see the top people consistently using most".
What I use and what I think may be best are two different things.

Went through all this recently when trying to find parts for a new build. Through my research on the interwebz, it seems as if the BCM is the way to go. I ended up going with a Spikes Tactical, as it matched the specs of the BCM and was able to find it for $50 less online. I think either would be a solid choice. Haven't dabbled in the nickel boron quite yet, just not sure that its needed for my rifle use. Below are the Spikes and BCM specs for BCGs (BCM first).

Don't know about today's quality but I run a couple Spikes NiB BCGs and they are excellent. My OEM Daniel Defense also is excellent but dosnt clean up nearly as easy.

Another option I'd consider is Barnes Precision out of Apex.

I just went ahead and got a PSA full auto BCG. With the deal they have it was hard to pass up: BCG plus 10 Pmags for $128!!

Yeah, that's a deal. You could sell the BCG and almost break even.

PSA NiB BCG here, no issues at all, but I'm also no expert on AR's.

I've heard AR guys talk shit about $90 BCG's versus their $180 BCGs, but I haven't ever seen them prove anything ineffective. IMO, it's just important to have a strong company behind the product. Can't go wrong with BCM, Spikes, DD.

I hear Sons of Liberty makes sweet ones, but IDK what would make it special. The logo is cool: https://sonsoflibertygunworks.com/products/solgw-bolt-carrier-group-158-carpenter-sp-hpt-mpi

3 of my AR's are running PSA BCG's. So far I haven't had any issues with them. The one in the most fired AR is pretty loose, and slick as eel crap now, but it still runs perfectly.

That is a freaking cool logo...Would make an awesome tattoo!!

I've heard "AR" guys talk about this and that and out down less expensive brands. Basically..If it wasn't DD, Larue, or Noveske....It wasn't worth owning.

Break into my house where I am in fear of my life and family's life and I'll show you just how deadly my Bushmaster is...You know. I can't stand guys that think they know it all...Must be compensating for something....Lol

Thanks Irish....I haven't heard of sons of liberty brand before.

Colt, Daniel Defense, BCM , LMT, Noveske, SIONICS

PSA seems to be a shot in the dark, you can go to their site and look at the reviews and see pictures of broken bolts.

I've heard bad reviews on the Ptac line, but PSA's premium line have worked well for me.

supposedly made by the same people who make bcm bolts, although thats hearsay, they list all of their specs on the website.

bcm, dd and sons of liberty seem like good options.

I have an older PSA BCG (circa 2010) that I just started using and I think it's cracked with less than 100 rounds fired. Ordered a toolcraft to replace it today.

Sent back one of my PSA BCG today for having a bad ejector pin hole( the roll pin walks out). I have also had to replace the firing pins in both of mine due to them being short and causing bad primer strikes.

I will be ordering a new BCG next week for this rifle, probably a aims or a tool craft.

Monmouth has the toolcraft for $85 shipped. You can get the NiB one for about $115 shipped.
