Back during the Obama years, I bought three Palmetto Defense lowers and three Palmetto State MOE FDE lower part kits. Life happened and I had to put plans on hold. I just recently rediscovered the box I put them in.

Jig prices seem to be pretty steep. Would I be better off just selling them and getting stripped lowers? I see prices on AR's and uppers/lowers have significantly dropped in price since the last I looked.

I'm trying to figure out the most cost effective way to end up with a no frills 5.56 rifle. I don't have much experience with AR's and this is why I'd like one or three.

Thanks!

80% lowers arent really worth it anymore, IMO. when you can get them on the regular for $30-$40 for a ready to go lower.

If I were you, I'd sell all 3 for $20-$25 a piece, and 1 parts kit for $40. and buy 2 finished lowers... use your other parts kit and build out 2 lowers are no extra cost.

There's a shop in my area that sells lowers. I'll have to stop in and see what the prices are like. It'd save me the transfer fees from ordering online.

Put the 80% receivers (and 1 maybe 2 LPKs) away “just in case” and watch the prices on jigs and when you catch one on a Black Friday Sale buy one. I actually enjoyed spending the time on an 80% lower but it is not as easy as some make it out to be unless you have a good jig and the right shop tools so for your first build I’d buy a finished lower to start with ... walk before you run here.

Shooting the Sig Sauer M4 and AR-10 a family member has really sparked my interest in them.

I like the idea of picking up part by part as I can because the Dan Wesson 1911 I just bought depleted my gun funds for quite some time.

Good advice. They were pretty much an impulse buy back then with the craziness, so much thought wasn't put into the process at the time.

I'm doing this more as well, unless I'm looking for something in particular.

There was a shop selling Anderson lowers for about $60, when online they we're $40. Add shipping and a transfer, Even a great price on one, and you're already over it.

Primary arms has Anderson lowers for $30 today but if it were me, I'd get an Aero from E-arms for $48 shipped. Then I'd build it with one of your Moe kits and buy a compete upper. Schuyler, Granite Ridge, and a few others have had deals on Aero complete uppers. So has Brownells.

I agree, I've used Anderson and Aero, and the Aero is better all around. I was using that as an example of the math.

Listen to JRHorne, he would not steer you wrong with AR stuff!

Thanks for the info. I have to locate some powder and primers tomorrow and will stop by that shop and see what their prices are like.

Another option (if you do not already have the stock/receiver extension kit) is pick up a lower at your LGS and then buy one of the rifle kits from PSA that has a complete upper and lower build kit (includes full LPK and stock kit). Spare LPK's are always good to have around.

Those MOE kits come with REs, or did back in 09 when I bought a few of them for $99. It should include LPK, RE, Buffer/spring, Moe Grip, Moe Stock. Everything you need for a complete lower, just add receiver.

EDIT: I see OP said Moe LPKS, not build kits. OP, pick one of these up from E-Arms as well: http://www.e-arms.com/aero-precision-ar15-m4-carbine-buffer-kit-no-stock/
