I just put together an ar with an adjustable gas block and I’m looking for some help tuning it to run as softly as possible. I’ve been looking around the interwebs but can’t find answers to a few questions.
1, do I want a light buffer weight? Or is there an ideal weight? I have stock carbine springs and a white spring spring. I have a few carbine buffers an h2 and an h3 sitting around. I thought I had an h1 but I can’t seem to find it.
I’m basically looking to be pointed in the right direction to avoid a bunch of wasted time and ammo.
The rifle I’m working on is a 16” psa Sabre with a chrome lined fn barrel and mid length gas system.
Thanks

I’d just stick with a carbine buffer and standard springs for a general purpose rifle.
That’s what I was wondering. So carbine buffer and standard weight is where I’ll start. As far as tuning the gas Bloch. Do I just tighten it down and then work it up until it holds the bolt back?
The rifle will eventually be used in 2 gun shooting so soft and fast is the goal.
Thank you

That’s what I do, then I give it a little more to be sure.

You’re probably aware that there is a disparity in power levels between ammo. So if you tune it on the very edge of running well with M193 and then switch to Tula, it won’t run.

M193 is what I shoot mostly. Sometimes heavier but mostly m193. So I would consider that my minimum requirement. When I hear Tula I think of dirt cheap ak’s in the early 90’s and get sad

4 minute video. Explains it well.

Turn the gas down until the gun cycles but does not lock open on an empty mag.

Then add gas until it locks open reliably.

Add another click or two more gas to be safe and stop there.

Either do this with the specific ammo you want to use or do it with the weakest ammo you plan to use.

This is exactly how I do it, and also how superlative arms recommend for their AGB. For non suppressed I think you’re looking for the 3–4:00 ejection iirc and 1-2 if suppressed. I think.

Went to the range today and got it all dialed in with white springco spring and a carbine buffer. It’s pretty soft shooting. In fact my other at feels like a mule comparatively. I guess I’ll have to do something about that one now…
Has anyone ever used bear river tactical’s Ez tune restricted gas tubes. Seems like a good idea.

Is it bear river or black river? I knows it is BRT.

I know of a couple CFFers that use them and like them. It seems like a great option if you don’t want an adjustable gas block.
