I am wanting to get a new optic for a rifle I’m building and I have plenty of red dots so I’m looking to get into something with some magnification. I’ll likey just be using this to plink on the range and maybe some hog hunting. Getting ready to move soon so not sure what kind of distance I’ll have access to at my new location but I’d like to be able to work out to minute of man/hog at maybe 500yds or so. I’m trying to keep this around 400ish and preferably under. I realize I’m not going to get Trijicon quality at that price point, but I feel like I should be able to get a solid, reliable optic that will do the job.

I’ve been looking at the Vortex Strike eagle, some of the Primary Arms 1-4/6/8s and also the Primary Arms prism optics with the ACSS reticle. Any suggestions?? Thanks

I really like my StrikeEagle II 1x6 and can hit out to 500 almost boringly easy. I heard the new 1x8s don’t have as nice a glass as the 1x6s, though

Probably a little more than you want to spend but a good deal on a very solid scope. There are a few other threads where this option comes up. All around great package for what you want. For the mount and scope the $$ really isn't too bad.

Yeah that’s a little more than I’m looking to spend right now. That is a great price thoug, especially with that mount. I love DSG and have ordered quite a few things from them. Only downside is that they are in TX so I have to pay tax.

I’m also trying to get whatever I get from amazon as I have some gift cards save up. Thanks though

I really like the Steiner P4Xi 1-4x24. @NKD has one and it is awesome. I have a Vortex Strike Eagle and it is a nice scope but it isn't in the same class as the Steiner IMHO. When I finish my degree and start shooting again I'll be going to the Steiner. It is just outside the price range you specified but not by much and if you are military or prior military Steiner gives you a discount and the discount puts it right in your price range.

I am active duty mil. That’s a heck of a discount if it puts it down to my price range. You guys are making it hard to not want the better optic, and I had already kind of been eying the Steiner.....

Just like packs, you almost always get what you pay for.

I do like the Steiner. Just nothing even close to that for under 500$. I believe I paid 459 shipped for throw lever model. DSG has it for 463.00 and I think they take good care of military.
German glass. It's unbelievably almost as good an image as a Vortex Razor Hd, imo. And as fast as a red dot. I am hoping they will make a similar one in 1-6x24 for under a grand. I'll snap one of those up, too.

Think you guys are talking me into this Steiner. Now I just need to find a good price for a solid QD mount........

My buddy got a bundle from DSG Arms that had the Steiner with an MI qd mount. It’s a solid mount and he got a good price. Might be worth keeping an eye on their sight. If you sign in (they just send an occasional sale email) you can see actual prices.

Yeah, I have an account there and the deal with the MI mount is what I have my eye on. Just trying to see if I can find one cheaper (even though I doubt i will).

Haven't checked their prices. Might be a better deal with the mount than going though Steiner.

If you hadn’t moved away you could try mine first!

Is the Aero Precision SPR mount pretty good? @NKD it looks like that is what you are running in the pic

Or would y’all recommend a quick detach mount from ADM or Midwest, or is the Burris PEPR mount any good?

Well, I should have known I wouldn’t be able to be happy with a budget optic.....just pulled the trigger on a Trijicon Accupower with the segmented BDC reticle and a ADM recon QD mount.

That’s an awesome scope, so I bet you’ll be quite happy!

Thanks. I’ll submit that Wednesday when I get back to my work email.

The Steiner PX4i optics are awesome for the money

Well, so much for the budget I had......mount should be here on Monday and I’ll post some more pics once I get it mounted.

Do yourself a favor and buy ADM mounts. You'll never be disappointed. Ever.

All my serious ARs wear ADM Recon mounts, and the less serious ones wear Leupold Mark one piece.

A secret to getting ADM for a nice price is to check Amazon warehouse. People are ALWAYS buying the wrong optic mounts and returning them. Got a 20MOA 30mm Recon for $72 a few months back, it had never been mounted on a firearm.

Yup, I’m a big ADM fan as well ans I have a recon mount on the way. I ordered it at the same time, scope just shipped a little faster, and I did search the warehouse but it only saved me about 10 bucks.

I have a my MRO and a RMR in ADM mounts on other rifles right now, so I’m pretty familiar with their ruggedness and quality.

So....what do you think ?
Just playing around with it in the house I like it a lot. Hopefully should be able to get it to the range this week.

Sucks that vets cant get that discount.

Vortex gives 40%
Right before Christmas it was 50% off because my Brother in Law gave me some of his access to check prices. I could have gotten the Vortex Razor HD-E in either reticle for $999. If I hadn't just bought the standard Gen II I would have ordered one.
