I am looking at getting a suppressor for my 300 blk that was a pistol with brace. I don't want to do the registered route so was thinking is there an upper with a permanent fixed shroud that would bring barrel length to 16"? Then the suppressor would go into the shroud when installed. This would keep length down to a minimum. I don't really want a 16" barrel and then a suppressor. The only thing I found was the Gemtech Integra upper that may work but is an integrated suppressor so would be dedicated to that firearm. I would love to be able to switch from my 300 to a 556. I know very little of this world so any help would be great.

If I understand correctly, you're envisioning basically a long flash can that could be pinned to the barrel to permanently lengthen it, but also has a wide enough ID that the suppressor could be inserted and threaded on.

You would need the suppressor mounting system to still be accessible down inside that flash can/shroud thingy.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. May not be doable. Just thinking outside the box. I do like the Gemtech but 2k each will get more costly.

I don't know of anything off the shelf, but would suggest having a local machine shop turn one for you. Turn the can to your dimensions - thread the bottom of the can to match the AR barrel, but have them machine a lip long enough to slip on the OD of the barrel to P&W (P&W in the "meat" of the barrel, not the threads). This will only reduce your thread availability by the thickness of the flash can (which doesn't have to be much), and will still allow you to have enough threads for either a direct thread or suppressor adapter.

You want this, but for an AR…right?

You’d be limited to direct thread, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Or you’d need to find a machininst to install a QD mount before perm attaching a shroud. Several QD options out there that would work becuse you don’t have to access a locking mechanism with their designs. YHM and any of the outlying taper mount styles would work.

…and you’d also need a barrel/shroud/silencer combo such that the lengths would all work to give you 16” while still being able to remove/install the silencer.

You can get creative and weld a shroud onto your muzzle, behind the suppressor. Ugly as sin but it works lol

You could always do a 13.7” with pinned and welded muzzle device. Your total length will be 16” but the can will fit over the muzzle device so your total length will be appx 13” + suppressor length

Would you seek to do this to avert NFA on the SBR? If you plan on getting the can you will be in the NFA log. At least now you can have a tax free SBR. I have the Hybrid can and shoot it on everything. the shroud idea sounds good but if the can is not welded on the thread end, heat could seize the cap to the threads on the barrel and cause a fun time removing the cap. You are certainly like me , a "thinker", I have been down the trail you are on and fighting the machine is futile. Embrace it, take what is free and wade on in deep. The consideration on the SBR is it will be hard to sell them if you need money someday. As PisgahPlinker states long enough to do the muzzle device method works. I have Encore pistol barrels I have done that to, to make them rifle-length and easy to suppress, highly recommend!

Just thinking outside the box. I don’t really want to go sbr route since I do travel a lot for work and don’t want do deal with the additional red tape. Thanks for everyones comments. Has given me lots to consider.
