The AR10 I picked up last weekend has a carbine length buffer tube. I plan on swapping out the Magpul CTR stock it came with for an A2 that I have on the shelf.

I'm assuming I'll need a rifle length spring...but will I also need a rifle length buffer?

No, but your BCG may travel much farther rearward while cycling.

Yes you need a rifle buffer

About carbine buffers for LR-308 pattern rifles... Standard AR-15 carbine tubes require a short buffer, shorter than an AR-15 buffer. Palmetto State Armory offers a longer adjustable stock tube which allows the use of standard AR-15 carbine buffers. The more you know... [emoji294]️

If you plan to leave the CTR on for good I would just get the rifle buffer.
I swapped out the carbine extension/stock for a rifle length and A2 stock. Then, I added an 11oz rifle length buffer (it came with a 5.4oz carbine length). It's working great!
