I'm going to be putting a Vari-xiii on my AR10 when it gets here. I have Nikon P223 mounts for it, are they going to be good enough or do I need to upgrade?
I'd rather go ahead with a better mount now if I need to rather than changing them out later.

I would recommend a 1-piece mount. I like the Aero Precision ultralight mounts if you don't want/need a QD mount. AP's mounts are economical (can be had for under $70) and have held up very well on a 308. Depending on eye relief of your scope, and your stock set up, I would at least get the extended mount that pushes the scope forward 1" to help with eye relief. You can always move the scope mount a few pic spots back, but you can only mount it so far forward on the upper of course, so I like the extension built into the mount.

I have the Nikon mounts on my AR10. So far they've worked fine.
I've used them on an AR15 for years, just after they first came out. I check often, but I've never had to re-tighten screws or re-adjust anything. I've used no locktite. No rusty screws or any blemishes. They've stayed put..but the 15 is not a 10 so you'd have to consider that.

There are better mounts, and the guys will for sure lead you to them. In my case, I can't justify 200-some dollars for them as my shooting doesn't necessitate such premium mounts or scopes. I also don't need quick detach..something I never do..and that drives the cost of mounts upward also. I have taken the scope and mounts off as one piece, and putting them back on pretty much held zero.

If there's one thing with the Nikon mounts is the screws are sensitive to cross-torquing. Take your time here and do the best you can. Apply equal pressure/turns to the screws otherwise the crosshairs can move a smidge.

Overall I'm happy with them, and can say that they're one of the best mounts in their price range.

Best scope rings I have ever used were Talley Manufacturimg fixed rings. They are about $78.00 a set but the most solid precision made rings I’ve mounted a scope with. They come in a box like a fine watch, or at least mine did. Perfect dimensions. I mounted a scope on my AR10 with them after trying a cheaper brand.

Thanks Guys, it's gonna be a while on a mount. PSA put their 308 ammo on sale for $.50 per rd so I've depleted my reserves. :( I'm hoping to find a 1 piece mount soon.

I saw that ammo deal at psa. Probably gonna dip into that myself.
Oh yeah side note..my scopes on the 15 and the 10 are both Nikon. Work great with their mounts. Shoots moa at 100 yards if I do my part.

I also have a 223 Nikon Mount on my ar10, it’s holding a diamondback tactical 4-12scope with a sunshade and bca flip caps, it hasn’t failed me yet

I went on PSA this morning and they have 5 20rd mags and 100rds of Sierra matchking .308 on sale for 160$

dnz makes freedom reaper mounts similar to their game reaper mounts for bolt guns. These are great and usually require no lapping since they're one piece and very high quality CNC machining

American Defense or LaRue Tactical will do exactly what you need, they're not inexpensive, but you only pay for good kit ONCE....
