Hey guys, I came into some parts for a large frame AR build. Well, enough parts to justify moving ahead with the project but Im struggling for a pistol brace specifically for the large frame. It looks as though many AR15 products will cross over but I rarely see that mentioned as Im guessing standardization is absent on the AR10.
Any suggestions from you fine folks on what may work for this project?

Thanks @Ikarus1, thats a good link but I unfortunately was not clear from my own ignorance. There appear to be 2 different setups on large frames, The Armalite AR10 style and the DPMS AR10 style. Mine is a DPMS receiver set and that looks to be DPMS LR-308 designation. I will also check out the .308AR site when I have a couple hours....lol(suggestion by a member)

I looked at the Shockwave blade for the brace but the "shovel" blade of the unit looked painful on a .30 especially on a pistol. I also saw the Shockwave attached to a LAW brace folder that looked very compact but Im not sure about the additional weight but cool for sure. Heres a link to that setup:

Again this is an Armalite setup.

I contacted SB Tactical about their SBPDW brace and was assured it would work for the application as long as it had a milspec buffer tube. Heres the link to that product:

Well thats two possible options, the SBPDW or the Shockwave....any other suggestions?

the type of buffer is independent of receiver style that you have.
That's mostly for the handguards and which upper and lower fit each other.
Any brace on a .308 will be painful. That's why I ditched the carbine setup and went to a .308 rifle length buffer setup.
I would get AT LEAST an H3 weight buffer and possibly a Sprinco orange spring if you're going with the carbine style buffer.

@Ikarus1 I am looking at an adjustable gas block to start, in order to bleed off some of the over pressure. Do you think the heavier buffer weight and stronger spring should be done along with or peck at it one mod at a time? I also looked at the low mass bolt carrier groups.....this can add up to $300+ pretty quick. There are many options but the question is what works best for cheek weld and recoil reduction. Im sure this will be a beast but a calmer beast is my objective. FYI, the barrel I have is a KAK 12" with carbine gas.

Trust me when I say this: you do not want low mass anything for a .308 :D
except maybe a lighter weight barrel! But for a 12" barrel you've already got probably a 2lb lighter barrel than the stainless 18" I have.

Honestly, I would go with a AR15 pistol buffer, an H3 weighted shorter buffer for the .308, a good stiff spring like a Sprinco Orange, and whatever brace. That will tell you if you like it.
Break it in with that, probably 200rds or more and make sure it's reliable with a good strong ejection pattern.

Then an adjustable block and tune for less recoil. I like superlative arms due to the bleed-off feature (which you can take or leave...)

Could you use the SBA3?
Here is an email from SB on their products for this application:

Hi Chris-

The SBA3 is compatible with AR10 builds. Our STDT pistol buffer tube is likewise compatible with AR10 builds. As such, all of our pistol buffer tube compatible braces (SBM4, SOB, SBL, SBX-K, SBV, SBMini) will work.

The SBPDW is compatible with some AR10 receivers. I know it works with Aero Precision, for example, but I have not tested it with DPMS. Some AR10 patterned receivers are wider than others which may prevent the brace rods from clearing the receiver and allowing the brace to fully collapse.

Below is the SBPDW on an Aero .308:

Hope this helps.
