I have my thoughts, would like yours. Which do you prefer for a .308 auto-loader that will spend most of its time on the bench with a few hunting days tossed in.

I use a Geissele SSA-E for my bench guns. I really like the two-stage; I can take it up until I feel the first stage end, then it's a hair over a pound to break the 2nd stage.

My neighbor/shooting buddy (don't get jealous @JustKeepSwimming ) has a National Match in his bench gun. He's got the 1st stage at 1.5lbs and the 2nd stage a .5lb. It's CRAZY light even compared to the SSA-E and it surprises me every time I shoot it.

I LOVE my CMC 3.5lb single stage in my 2 gun rifle but for precision I definitely prefer a 2 stage for the same reason @11B CIB likes the SSA-E. I had an SSA on my old Recce build and it was great for the purpose of that gun.

Depends.

How good is the brake?

I had a shitty one, my AR 10 with a 2.5lbs single jp cound bump fire with the best full autos. Lol

good question. Will be suppressed for the most part. Otherwise it's an AAC BLACKOUT! 51t Brake...so not really a brake at all.

I would go with CMC single stage flat 3.0lbs.

We have some if you want one..

The 2 stage was a technique quality gunsmiths did back in the day to make factory triggers worth a crap. Here is the best Example.

Then once you could buy a quality trigger in single stage I "think" the 2 stage trigger is past it's prime personally.

But a bunch of SSA-E fans will tell you I am full of s--t too

Lol

I have an SSA-E that I could repurpose to this rifle...and I have a CMC flat that I could repurpose....I'll likely just try both and see what's what. I also have a LaRue MBT that's awfully nice sitting in my "backup" 3 Gun rifle....decisions decisions....

Everyone is going to have a different opinion. I dislike any take up in any trigger, pistol or rifle. When I pull back I want it to break right now, not 1/2" from now. After ahooting some decent single stages and some pretty good two stages I'd rather have a gritty mil-spec 7lb single stage over a factory (RRA, Armalite, etc.) any day.

I love my SSA-E. But I'm not going to tell anyone they're full of crap about a single stage. I love my CMC single also and I think it's a better deal...especially the $129 sale a few weeks back

If you shot a 2 stage trigger with a half-inch of take-up....no wonder you don't like them lol. A quality 2-stage can be taken up quickly and rest on the "wall" before the break, and you can also pull right through it quick as hell if you need to do some high volume shooting.

I don't like RRA triggers; had the trigger wear down REALLY quick and it turned from a 2-stage into a really mushy single.

OK....I'm gonna play trigger roulette...

SSA-E coming out of the 3 Gun Rifle
LaRue MBT coming out of the other .223 AR
CMC Flat coming out of AR Pistol
GI coming out of AR10

CMC Flat going into 3 Gun rifle
LaRue going into other .223
SSA-E going into AR-10
GI going into pistol

Did the MBT come out and go right back in lol

That looks like how I'd have done it also, FWIW

I don't want any takeup in a hunting rifle. I want it to break at the moment I apply pressure exactly when I have that crosshair where I need it. No extra stages. I don't hunt from a bench, so I find myself shooting non supported sometimes.

You don't want a trigger you have to stage on moving game. One consistent pull with minimal take up smooth 3lb and clean break for a hunting rifle for me.

I'm just the opposite. I don't shoot at moving (big) game, and I'll make sure I'm supported somehow. So, I prefer a more target oriented setup.

We can fix this. Come with me in the swamp late one fall ;) Yotes and hogs aren't always still and you may not have time to get supported. Sometimes a moving shot is a must when piggy is running towards you. Now in a nice box deer stand over a field, a heavy target setup is fine, but lugging around isn't. If you have time, it works. The way I hunt, the single stage is preferable for me.

Ok ok....I'll bring the 300BLK SBR for running pigs. Just let me know when!

There's been plenty of game taken worth two stage triggers ;)

I'm looking for a new trigger for my longish range Ar ( have a jmt trigger ATM, just don't like it....) And you guys haven't made the choice any easier!!!! Lol
