Looking for a budget conscious archery target. I would like it to be able to handle the load from a 55lb bow and last a long time. Suggestions appreciated.

Sub'd.

I needs a good target, too.

Stop by Tractor Supply and ask for some styrofoam blocks they use when shipping the small trailers.
They work pretty good for awhile. Super cheap, no fuss throw in the yard and shoot.
Another is a box stuffed tight with old clothes. Or stuffed tight with old shrink wrap they use for pallets.
Old carpet strips cut 12"x 48 and stacked up in a wood frame is the longest lasting ,but it will be more perminent as it will be heavy to move.

I have tried a few DIY and most seem to be crazy hard to get the arrows out. I'd buy a commercial one.

Best one I ever had was a big piece of round foam I bought from a bow shop in China Grove, NC.
It lasted for years and I shot it just about everyday.

This is the time of year to troll the "mart" stores for sales on archery stuff. Should be able to get a target for cheap. I bought a giant foam block at Foam Rubber Outlet on Capital Blvd. Broke my heart to pay $50 for it but it has lasted for years and has 6 side I can shoot. Will also take broadheads as long as it is not shot up bad.

Clothing bag targets are far and away the easiest to pull. If you are reasonably handy and want a smaller version check this out.

I built mine out of the lumber from the girls swing set. It's about 4' x 4' and fronted with solid insulation board. Might change that in the future if I can find a better fabric to do it. Filled with old clothes. Unless on catches some denim my youngest daughter can pull them right out without and issue.

The problem with foam is that it tries to expand back to it's original shape and that expansion is what grips the arrow so bad. I bought a spyder web target which is basically a block stuffed with fibers so it is similar to a fabric bag target. Those types of targets rule for ease of pull out.

I have a Third Hand Archery bag and it is superb. I had two older worn out target bags and I removed the fillings (rags, clothing) and stuffed it in the new Second Hand Archery bag.......it is now my favorite bag. The bag material is high quality and arrows pull out really easy. The top edge of the bag uses Velcro to open and close the bad so you can add more stuffing when needed.

The DD Archery Magnum arrow puller is the damn hotness for pulling arrows from foam and 3D targets.

I've shot my Insanity CPX at 330fps at 5yds into a crossbow foam block, and a simple twist and pull and my arrow comes right out.
