I've noticed a trend with the last 2 orders I have placed on line. The damned shipping is outta sight!!
2 weeks ago I placed an order with Champion Shooters Supply for 2 bricks of Federal Target .22 which was right at 110.00 and the shipping was 22.00.
Just yesterday I placed an order with Able Ammo for 2 sets of Weaver T-22 riser mounts, total merchandise was 24.00, shipping was 12.50. (weight was less than 2#)
It sure looks like these on line places are making money not only for the product but on the shipping as well..... Or is it just me??

Flat rates went up again. (USPS)

But if they can tack on a few dollars on every ones order for "shipping", above actual cost, thats a lot of money at the end of the year.

Most of these places have contracts with the big shippers, so they get better prices then you or I.
You decide.

and on the 6th day the lord said "Let there be Amazon.com" and so it was, and it was good.

Problem is that you can't call someone to see if it's actually in stock or is your azz going to be backordered until your next birthday.... I needed these things last week!!!

And in the case of Champion Shooters all they said about shipping was "to be determined at time of shipping"... Lame. I sent them an email thanking them for my one and ONLY order and of course I haven't received a reply....

Cabela's is your friend. You can order one box of ammo or one of anything on-line with free shipping to their store. Of course it helps if a store is close-by says Capt Obvious.

My wife did that at Home Depot when she wanted a pallet of landscape edging. She bought the entire pallet and got the volume discount and had it shipped to their store so there was no shipping charges. She really had to dig on the websites to find that offer, but did get it. The shipping would have about doubled the cost.

I needed something from Midway a few months ago... the item was like $1.99 (it was the ruger decal that is countersunk into the grip cap on a rifle stock, so I couldnt just get it anywhere) shipping was like $6.00.

I never have that problem, 99% of the time, before I pay I know they when will arrive, and its usually 2 day, 3 max.
plus free returns if I don't like it.

and I buy a lot on amazon, they say at the end of each year ( subscription year for prime) how much you saved on shipping and its like $600

If a seller on Amazon lists an item that is not really in stock, they get hit with large penalties and their seller rating suffers. I've placed almost 100 orders in the past 6mo and have run into that situation exactly 1 time; the seller ended up buying it from another vendor on my behalf at their added expense.

Academy has free shipping over $25 even on ammo, and Walmart aka Jet.com will discount your order if you pick it up in a store. Between those 2 options every other online retailer falls short

Yeah, I've been pretty annoyed with shipping lately. FWIW, anything over 9 ozs is not allowed to go USPS first class. It has to go priority or flat rate. That get's pricey on small things quick. What drives me nuts is Amazon sandbagging shipping if you are not Prime. Does it really take the full 5 days to ship something all of a sudden? And I've canceled a few orders over shipping charges.

I do a lot of shopping on eBay too. I'll pay a touch more for good feedback and have not had any issues with good vendors.

When I shop online I load up identical carts on several sites and go through the checkout to determine shipping costs.
Not uncommon to find a free shipping deal out there somewhere too.

Ammo shoppin is a freakin art.
You've got to know where, and you've got to use coupons, and free shipping.
I regularly get ammo dropped off to my door for less coin than even wal mart has on sale. Good ammo too.

Guys, I quote a lot of shipping and I've seen shipping costs go up dramatically in the past year. I'm not kidding when I say you couldn't ship an empty matchbox across town for less then $12.00 through UPS. USPS just increased their flat rate boxes for the first time in years. Yes, it's frustrating but I don't think we're getting ripped off by the carriers for shipping.

We're getting ripped off by our government who has forced unneeded inflation by their reckless actions when they try to prop up their false economy.

I've only had one issue with Amazon. They sold an item that they did not have and placed on backorder after the order was placed. 6 months later they canceled the order with no notice no attempt to even obtain any of the product that they sold. Needless to say I still shop on there.

It costs them an employee to package all that stuff up.

That said, yes, it sucks when you buy a $5-10 part and shipping is as much, if not more.

And Ive only had one issue with Amazon not delivering on time, it was one of their lightning deals back at Black Friday, I didnt get it for a month, ended up emailing them about it and they refunded the money...next day the product arrived.
It was only a $2 cell holder, not a big deal on either end.

But Amazon is great.

Wikiarms takes out the guesswork for me, and I can exclude Bs vendors like CTD and sportsmans guide. Sends me email alerts at the per round cost threshold that I set. Currently that's.06 cents for 22lr, .28 cents for brass 223 and .21 for 7.62x39 [emoji12]

Here is my perspective on shipping and handling fees: at least they are usually way less than what it would cost me to get in the car, and go pick it up at the store... Which probably doesn't even have what I am specifically ordering online anyways, plus it saves time.

I check shipping charges as closely, or more so, than the cost of stuff I buy.

There are a few businesses that I no longer bother to try to buy from because they hide shipping costs until the last button before order submission on their websites.

I think you can still get a Prime Student account for half price ($49?) for 4 years. Free two day shipping rules.

I'm not a student, but I *hear* that certain community colleges in California will allow you to register online - without signing up for classes - and upon registration completion you're issued a valid .edu email address.

If you want a shock, order a box of cardboard targets. Last time I did that, the shipping was more than the targets.

My wife sells used dolls online and within the U.S. only ships priority flat rate. Normally $13.60 for box and $7.20 for padded envelope. She does this for tracking purposes and also it is easier then having to worry about weights and box sizes. You can fit a lot into those envelopes and boxes.

Also I order my lead bullets online and the guy uses flat rate. So I try to order as much as I can get into a box. He even tells you on his sight about doing this to save on shipping cost.

Outdoor limited in HP has local p/u. Yay right?

45 min each way, gas guzzling truck. I decided when I got there for my brick and two 50rnd boxes $10 shipping is a better deal. Still would've been less than 2 20rnd boxes at Gander or the LGS.

I've had a similar revelation. On two separate occasions I have made a decently large order of ammo...selected local pickup...and spent the 20-30 minutes traveling to and from wishing I had just spent the $15-20 on shipping.

Yeah - and their reason is there will be a significant increase in volume requiring them to hire more workers. But, if volume increases, so does profit, so why am I paying more?

Simple. Demand increases and supply doesn't. Yes they hire more and maybe the other companies do too but you still have the same number of options.

It's called free martlet. if they want to charge more and you don't like it don't use em.

Agreed, but their 'reason' for their increase is the need to hire. But those new hires are covered in their increased top line if they calculated right

They combine the shipping charges in order to pay for the "discount" you get for merchandise.

It not just the stores but UPS, USPS, and FEDEX all went up last year. I just sent a 2.5 ounce fly rod back to Orvis for replacement and shipping was $35 !!!

Exactly. Rocky Mountain Reloading sent me a package by priority mail that contain 1000 115gr 9mm and 500 200gr .45. It actually fit into my mailbox. I apologized to the postal guy the next time I saw him since it weighed a touch over 30.5 pounds

Actually a buddy is an Amazon seller and they are very strict on the Prime shipping. He isn't doing prime because it has to be shipped by 2pm the day it's ordered. They track that sht he said.

I have a lot to say on this topic.

First, without Outdoor Limited, I'm sure I would be shooting less. If this is the ammo we're discussing, https://www.outdoorlimited.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=f711bbrick, the OP could have supported a local business and probably saved some money. Since I learned about this resource (on another forum), I rarely buy elsewhere.

About Amazon Prime, do you guys know they offer their own branded credit card that provides Prime members with a 5% rebate? If you spend a couple thousand dollars a year on Amazon, the rebate pays for Prime.

Finally, about shipping, this is something I will never understand. Like others here, I buy tons of stuff on EBay and have rarely been burned or disappointed. I've bought everything from 11 cent items to those costing many thousands of dollars. My wife is exhausted from watching me open little packages and asking, "How is it possible for someone to buy or manufacture an item, put it on EBay, pack and take it to the post office in China paying the postage, pay EBay and PayPal's commissions and have it arrive in my hands costing 11 cents????????

On the other hand, I bought some 3/8" AR500 targets from an EBay seller. There were 6 of them ranging from 3 to 12 inch diameter. The seller wrapped each one in a USPS tyvek envelope and then put the whole group inside two more envelopes. He used 8 USPS envelopes (that I assume are supplied free) and was able to ship the package as "If it fits, there's one flat rate". The poor Postperson could barely get the thing out of her vehicle.
