This happened today….

NC State University sports announcer, Gary Hahn, suspended indefinitely for saying “illegal alien”. Here’s what he said and an article from the local paper:

Excerpt: “While giving the score of the Sun Bowl on Friday, Hahn said “down among all the illegal aliens in El Paso it’s UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6.”

Full Story:

I don’t think this is worthy of an indefinite suspension. What do you folks think?

PS: If I posted in the wrong category, my apologies.

Poor judgement. Suspension worthy as a CYA for the network, but not permanent suspension worthy. Give him the Whoopi Goldberg sensitivity training routine BS.

BTW, would it have still been offensive if he had said “Down in El Paso at the Sun Bowl it is 14-6. It is good to see the people of El Paso getting to take a break from all of the border controversies and enjoying a close fought bowl game”.

There are ways to make your point, and someone who talks do a living should be able to do so in a manner that is harder to object to.

I agree that there are always different ways to say things and I know we have all made “off color” comments in our lives, but it seems our skin has become so thin that it tears like wet tissue paper. What happened to sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me?? It’s also odd how one person can say something similar and it becomes an internet meme sensation and someone else says it … and cancel culture launches an all out juggernaut.

I blame cancel culture. Say something wrong and they take away everything you have and work hard for. It's causing people to live in fear and walk on eggshells. It's not a better world when people are terrified to speak the truth as they see it.

Yup, seems like everyone is "publicly" emotionally offended by something! pfft.

What is wrong with saying illegal alien, that’s what they are. There needs to be some serious consequences when these stupid communists start trying to “cancel” someone for saying something they don’t like. Hard enough consequences thst they don’t try it again, ever.

NC State Broadcaster Gary Hahn Will Be Reinstated Following ‘Illegal Aliens’ Suspension By Learfield

by Anthony Farris 35 minutes agoupdated 32 minutes ago
A baseless suspension imposed against North Carolina State radio broadcaster Gary Hahn for uttering “illegal aliens” on air will soon come to an end.

OutKick has confirmed that Hahn, who was suspended for his comment made during last week’s Mayo Bowl, will again be behind the mic a week from Saturday.

Learfield VP of Communications Tammy Purves wrote the following in an email directly to OutKick:

“Gary Hahn will rejoin the Wolfpack Sports Network broadcasts on Saturday, January 14, following his suspension.”
