Arise!!! Arise, zombie horse and accept your beating. (Kimberrrrrrrrr)

Are Kimbers reliably out of the box on par with say an out of the box Springfield range officer now?

I appreciate that heads up. I havn't shot a compact in years. My hands are bigger and older and hurt more now so I need to go rent one. The local range always has a compact colt or springer

I had a DW Eco in 45 and it was a pussycat. And I am not a big burly guy.

Kimber never made 80 series pistols. They used a schwartz safety based system on the II pistols. It it my understanding that post 2017 anything that does not have the II designation it a 70 series but I could be wrong on that.
Technically they never made a 70 series either.

I've had two Kimbers. A Ultra Carry II that ate anything I fed it. I also had a Pro Carry I. It was an unreliable POS, IMHO. When I called Kimber to ask about recoil springs, I was told that I needed to replace it every 300 rounds. I said every 3000. She said no, every 300. Off she went ASAP.

Wow the new Colt lightweight commanders have pretty sweet triggers. Yeah no Kimber for me. Ran across one with that hidieous blue anodized frame. Not a fan of the finish color at all, but the fit and finish were great for the price.

As I said before, I have a Para, Springfield and a Kimber, all are 1911s. Of the three the:

Para is is most temperamental and it needs to go back. The fix might cost me some $ as I got it as a problem child so no surprises on that one.

Springfield is the range queen, my daughter's love it. No issues, except I never get to shoot it.

Kimber (Ultra Cary II) is my daily carry. No issues. Took the Apex class and shot about 350 rounds. No failures... Well one time I didn't seat the mag on a tactical reload, that's on me. I was able to fire the required shot after reload as it doesn't have a mag safety (I won't have one). Just fire, seat the mag, slingshot.

I hear problems about 9mm 1911's but really don't experience them.

70 series no longer refers to only Colts with collet bushings. It has evolved to mean a 1911 pistol without a firing pin block using Colts original firing system. Colt refers to these as Colt 70 series guns. https://www.colt.com/detail-page/colt-70-govt-45-acp-5-71-double-diamond-rosewood-grip-blued

In todays modern parlance of 1911s Kimbers with on firing pins are "70 Series" 1911s like Dan Wessons and many others.

Personally, if I want a Kimber 1911, I'll just print out "KIMBER" on a Brother P-Touch labeler and stick it on the side of my Colt 1991A1.

Then pocket the money I didn't spend on the Kimber.

I sent my kimber solo back because the Kimpro had flaked off in big flakes. They sent me an email saying that it wouldn't be 100% that there may be pitting in those spots. So I am 100% sure they are simply spraying crap on top of the old finish. So I'm really anxious to see how bad it looks.

It is widely misused/accepted like all copiers used to be "Xerox" but the only "Series 70" guns are made by Colt...collet bushing or not.

Any other 1911 style pistol without a firing pin safety is just a 1911 style pistol and pre Series 70 Colts (for example) have not "evolved" into Series 70 Colts.

Whatever. Live in the past, be arcahric and irrelevant. You have added so much to this 2018 conversation. The modern conversation about 1911s is what is relevant to this conversation. IMHO

By the same stupid mentality only Colts and licsensed copies should be called 1911s. Get over it.

No it is a pretty universally understood term to describe a 1911 without a firing pin. Believe what you want other people will continue to have a modern relevant discussion.

As I said to the OP any II Kimber will have a firing pin safety and IIRC it is still a Schwartz system. For me the issue with Schwartz system is that if it fails the gun will.l not fire.

I am done talking about venevular bullshit with SC380. Unfortunately this is what discussions on gun forums have become. It’s not about anything meaningful it’s just someone with nothing relevant to say running their mouth.
