Sgt. Benjamin Cleland set a new national record by shooting the first-ever, perfect score of 800 with a service rifle.

Final score was 800-34X. Previous record was 798 set by MSgt Julia Watson of the USMC shooting team

Talk about laser-focus and holding hard!

I shot witha couple of those guys (Sgt. Ichord and another dude) at the DMM match in Clinton last month. Watching their approach to a stage and how they could switch from 'helpful, friendly good 'ol boys' to laser focused and taking care of business was a great education.

Amen to that. The same holds true for any of the .mil teams. Getting squadded with one of theM is always a learning experience.

Any relation to Max Cleland? Good shooting and figure it won't be long before the floodgates are open to many more cleans.

Funny I should see this. I just happened to read a story today about another milestone set in 1921, George Farr.

One of long range shooting’s greatest feats by a civilian shooter took place during the 1921 National Matches at Camp Perry. Ohio. Two men would ultimately be pitted against each other in a shoot-off during the 1000 yard Wimbledon Cup Match. The winner of the match oddly enough fell into virtual obscurity, The man who came in second would go on to be remembered even to this day. The trophy ended up being named after him and for his accomplishment that day. Friday Septemeber 9, 1921. That man who came in “first loser ” was of course George R. Farr.
