This is neat. When I lived in GA they did this and paired people up with farmers looking to purge hogs off their lands. They got 0 farmers for 3-5 years because farmers chose to make money leaing their lands to hog outfitters over helping someone learn something new. Human nature I suppose.

That is interesting and something I'll have to look into doing. I've never hunted before, nor does anyone in my family, nor do I know anyone who hunts.

I have land but not know how. We plan to plant some sunflowers this spring and I plan to get out for dove season this fall… now just need to figure out what I’m doing.

if you didn't know, NC endorses a free online NRA hunter safety course. It satisfies the requirements to get a hunting license.
I took it. it was boring, but it was available on my free time
I tried from october to january to make it to an in-person class, but there were almost none available here.
I'd have greatly preferred to meet with somebody who could teach me things... but i did what was available.

I'm hitting 30 years of not eating meat. I was never against meat, i was just against the disconnect most people have between dinner and where dinner came from. My plan is to maybe start eating again, but eating only meat that i have known personally.
But I don't know any hunters.

Just make sure you give adequate lead and you’ll be fine. Dove dance and dive a lot and are a lot of fun and good to eat. For everyone else nothing beats time in the woods. Watching videos and taking classes is good but won’t replace time wandering around watching and listening.

My hunting partner would say “you missed”. I’d say “I didn’t”. Then I’d go home, having had the hunting experience, minus the Bambi carving and carrying and crying.
