ASP Video: Armed defender responds to charging pit bull dog

You better shoot me too and quick

ETA for clarity: because if you just shot my dog you made yourself an imminent threat.

I fail to see the logic that leads to the conclusion that someone who shoots a dog attacking them is also going to try to shoot the owner of the dog. The shooter is not a threat to the dog owner unless the dog owner becomes a threat to the shooter.

Bottom line, if you have to live in such close proximity to those outside of your family, get to know them.
If you can live without having to deal with people on top of you, good.
Dogs are animals. Was this dog on the attack? I don't think so but if the popo was scared I guess he's allowed to shoot the dog.

Personally, I have had many encounters with unknown dogs and only been nipped a couple of times.
I've never had to kill someone else's dog.

My dad, who is about to be 80, called me about a month ago to tell me his neighbors pit had gotten out an came toward him aggressively, he was on his front porch and had already pulled his pistol. He didn't fire and the owner called the dog back before it got any worse. The dog stood in his yard barking at him. If he had charged toward the porch there would have been a news story.

Every time, except once, that I have encountered an aggressive dog they have come to a position close and stood ready. Only once have i had a dog totally charge me and I had walked into his domain.

From what little information is available on the video, disregarding all the fast draw hype, I don't think he needed to fire. But if someone is inherently afraid of dogs it would shade their judgement.

Just don't rush me in a clown costume!
