This is intense. If it was in Richland County, SC they would have had him in the patrol car under 60 seconds.

That would have allowed him to gun up and set the barricade.
I see both sides, and o clue which would be more routine SOP.

many way, that was wild. The guy is definitely not mentally stable. 2nd to blame after him is his dumb mother who raised that useless sack. And then she’s coddling him still the whole time. Losers.

loved that kick to the grape btw. That broad wasn’t kidding when she said her partner was gonna come in with a world of hurt lol. That guy knows how to control a situation.

I recall watching this video shortly after it happened a few months ago. Complete cluster. She did so many things wrong when she should’ve tried to de-escalate and waited for backup because clearly she couldn’t handle this guy 1:1. The shooting of his mom was just the icing on the cake.

Hard to watch.
Every time I watch LivePD i think something like this is going to happen at least a couple times.

If she continues she will eventually get another officer killed.
I would be rather concerned about how many bystanders she will shot trying to prosecute another less-than-$100 offense. At least, her fellow officers are paid for that risk and have a part in having her among them.

Two things:
1. Not a woman's job. Send me to the principal's office for saying that. There comes a time when we need to snap the hell out of it and tell "society" that some of its ideas are stupid and wrong. The officer being a woman caused the majority of this.

2. Crazy eyes. They're a real thing. When someone has them, stop talking and deal with it because crap is about to get real bad. This dude had them. Some people's crazy ex's have them. We've all seen them. Call me a red flagger, Minority Reporter, whatever. Not even a man cop would have bene able to solve this one without some level of force.

She should have tazed his ass as soon as he pulled away from her.

That was actually one of my first thoughts, she had plenty of chances to use non lethal when he was sitting on the lower steps, unless of course that department doesn’t use tazers.

Well, with COVID-19, you won't see much of this anymore. Lots of departments are only responding to shots fired and personal injury calls. Anything else will be, "We'll take your info and get back to you in a couple of weeks." How long do you think it will take the crooks to figure out that the cops aren't coming out to burglary and theft calls?

That’s an awful long time for an officer to get a cop. If she had been a citizen I’m sure it would have taken longer. They seem to respond faster where I am located.

I believe it’s best practice, and maybe even departmental policy, to only use less-lethal when you have lethal coverage. Since she’s alone there was no other coverage, in a confined space she can’t retreat, and clearly she is out-muscled so fighting isn’t a good option.

A lot of agencies have dumped the TASERS since it has become very restrictive to carry them. Most policy now requires active resistance or assault, pulling away now doesn't necessarily equate to active resistance. Walking away or running away isn't considered active resistance.

She was virtually worthless, no communication skills and then no physical skills or tactical skills to make up the gap. A good officer can do both masterfully.

Agree, when he clenched his fist at 2:00 Taser time. Plus mommy was ignoring officer, she even grabbed her by the left arm. Mom should have left the house and would not have gotten shot because she was in the way.

Complete failure on her part.
Not LE material

LE material
Weak officer chasing grown man?
Bad JuJu
Girl power. I guess it works better in movies.
Amen

Based on how long it's taking backup to arrive she's been in this position before and her fellow officers have about had enough. She can't handle the job yet keeps drawing a paycheck for doing nothing. If she continues she will eventually get another officer killed.
100% RIGHT!!!!! Not LE material

Gate is Locked and we are in Condition Yellow/Orange...……..

Not Here.....last time I was told 45 minutes for Officer on Site

My adopted daughter was the Only female on the Fifth Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit. She is 5 feet and 3 inches and weighs 125. She can run a carbine as good as any man, can't shoot a pistol Or fight worth a shit. I worried about her every day. She is now CSI so most are DRT when she arrives on scene.

Not LE material!!!

She is alive today because the Perp didn't try to kill her. He obviously was 10-96 but not deadly.

Putting on my mental health professional hat here:

She got too wrapped up in the argument over touching him. Concede the point, finish reading him his rights and then proceed with questioning, and yes go ahead and call for backup if you have to arrest him. But he may have actually allowed her to cuff him if she'd not got grabby first and then got stuck on how it was her right to get grabby.

This dude is obviously mentally ill, and based on his statements and body language has a trauma history. Once that trauma response is triggered it's fight or flight. You can't reason with that.

This is one of the reasons I'm active in teaching CIT classes with local LE. This situation could possibly have been avoided with an alteration of her approach once she realized she was dealing with someone with a mental illness.

Indeed. Soon you really will be your own first responder. Not that you aren't already.

Late to the party on this one. Saw the thread earlier but didn't watch the video until I caught up on the ASP YT channel. First thing I was thinking based upon speech and body language was the guy was somewhere on the MRDD spectrum. You are correct that they need to take a different approach when dealing with them. It looked to me like she jumped into the "I have to take control at all costs" mentality and she really got lucky. A lot of the MRDD clients get that fight or flight trigger and they can be inhumanly strong, violent, and can injure you badly without even thinking about it.

Definitely another example of where a paradigm shift in policing is needed.

When they have individuals like that guy K9 should assist with arrest. I thought he was going to knock her out when he clenched up and grimaced.

Didn’t the mom also say at some point he wouldn’t feel the same way once he was sober...

She did.
That dame has no damned business as an officer, mentally or physically. Street cops should have a test showing they can take down a 200lb man, throw him over their shoulder and carry him off.
He clearly appears to be autistic/asperger spectrum and abused with his strong reaction to being grabbed. If that hazard to society had have been awake in class, she would have recognized that right away and talked him down and out of the house. And the mother would have helped!
Stupid witch shot an innocent person with no consequences, that needed 10 surgeries, and will never be the same.
Shame on you Greenville.
