How many shooters have the Tricked Out / Pimped Out Ultimate Rig & Choice Glass with BUIS that are actually Zeroed In and understood? Or Choice Glass with NO BUIS ( Spare Tire )?

Tips and tricks for using and adjusting open sights.
What are the advantages of open sights:
  • Precise in medium to close range.
  • Fast target acquisition.
  • Many offer easy adjustment for zero.
  • Lighter rifle.

I love open sights, particular peep/ghost rings. He forgot to list rugged and low profile as advantages.

Yup,
I have a slight concern that some of other Brothers In Arms ( includes Females ) get LOST in and with the Scope stuff.

Early on this included myself because I had to learn / discover the ins & outs, still learning.
I have also learned to use my iron sights as I've had 3 ~ 4 scope failures, and no they were not 100 dollar scopes.

Bottom line, for average to moderate average use one doesn't really need glass costing upwards of $2,000.00.

Great article.

I have one rifle without irons (Ruger American). As soon as I have a chance to get it to the smith, it’ll have them.

I like irons. I do think optics are superior in just about every way. I don’t even use backups sights anymore.

But I have one carbine set up for irons. It’s fun.

I liked irons a lot better when I could see them.

I started both of my daughters on open sights, I don't think either has ever used a scope yet (25 & 32).
I'll do the same with my G-kids.

I compete with iron sights only in Muzzleloading competition. Sadly, most shooters never properly learn to use them
