Doing a little car camping up in WV this weekend. Great temps to test out new wool base layers and some wool gloves I recently bought. Temp last night was 36 - coldest I’ve camped in so far. Needless to say my cold weather camping setup needs some improvement!

After setting up yesterday went over to the Grist Mill. The leaves were nice but I am betting last weekend would have been perfect.

It sure was cold Friday night. But LL Beans wool base layers were solid. I was warm all night. It was awesome. Also had wool gloves I picked up from amazon that I got to try out. I was pleasantly impressed. Breakfast Saturday was done right. Bacon eggs and deer sausage!

After breakfast we went to Bridge Haven Golf Club. Haven’t played a full 18 holes in a long time. But it was a fun course. Really nice scenery. Even had a random pup walk up to us before starting hole 1.

After we got back to the camp site we had a few visitors walk through behind us. 3 doe meandered through the woods while we set up the fire.

Dinner was awesome. Rubbed some chicken in mustard then coated in seasoned flour. Made chicken sandwiches. They were real good. Also fried up some deer chops which were coated in grill mates applewood rub. Later on tossed some fries in foil with chili and cheese and tossed on the coals. But didn’t get pics of that.

Had steak and eggs for breakfast Sunday morning (with bacon and sausage of course). Fried up the deer chops rubbed in the same applewood rub. Used a bit of tin foil over the cast iron for easy clean up since we were heading out after breakfast. But obviously removed the tin foil to fry the eggs. Such a good breakfast. Something about eating in the woods makes it taste better.

All in all it was a fun weekend. The campground itself was really nice. It was pretty busy that weekend but still felt spaced from other campers. The sites themselves were pretty big. There were three of us so we split two sites. My brother and our friend have been doing this for a few years now. My brother is in western PA where I’m from and our friend is in Charlotte so we pick a campground somewhere in the middle. Getting to be a fun tradition.

That's a beautiful area of the motherland. You need to look at Stuart park next summer and go do the sinks of gandy. It's a little further into WV but worth it.

I just looked that up. That looks pretty cool. There is so much to do up in that area.
