Bacon Grease

So you all missed the most important use - fried chicken. Best fried chicken ever.

Post #19........fried chicken has already been spoken for: :D

My mom used to fry chicken in bacon drippings. Holy crap. 5-7 pieces at a sitting when I was 10.
It made me the large human I am today.

Aldi's peppered bacon is awesome. I have never bought any other bacon once I discovered this. The wife has a little tiny percolator from way back that sits on the stove and it holds the bacon grease.

That ain't bacon.

True! But it's better than that fakin' shite that my vegetarian (bless her heart) daughter cooks. Keep in mind that this is the same daughter that keeps telling me how much she misses bacon. I keep telling her to say the word and I'll fry some piggy bacon up for her in a heartbeat. ;)

Its good for all sorts of things. Flavoring: You can add it to beans, vegetables, etc to make them taste a lot better. You can use it like any cooking oil or butter for frying. I don't cook bacon often, but I always save the grease in a coffee cup, and use it from time to time.

So, cabbage in bacon grease with mushrooms and peppers tonight to go with the steak and corn.

And maybe Bourbon... well, no maybe, lol!!

Edit: rub my meat in bacon grease before adding Montreal seasoning because... "Merica!!

Edit @: because drunk me can't spell

Our cousin gave me the cup and spoon that sat in my Great Grand Mother's fireplace to collect bacon grease. Ain't seen anybody mention it yet but I contend you ain't never had no French Fries ifen they weren't cooked in bacon grease. Good lord, I'm going to make me some right NOW!!!!!

Have you tried the apple wood smoked version yet? It's awesome! The Smithfields apple wood and cherry wood smoked thick cut is pretty darn fine as well. ;)

No we just get what Sam's has. The one we have now is Pecan. I'll have to see if they have the apple.

I'm gonna have to pick up the next batch o' bacon. My wife has been buying that turkey bacon. It doesn't smell like bacon and there's no grease left over for the stuff I like to cook with it. :(
If you saw how it was made and what it was made from you'd be back to eating pork in short order!

Wright brand thick cut at Sam's. Oh my! And the grease is fantastic.

I'll second all of the above. We use it when we fry squash, carrots, or any other veggie. Put it in green beans. Technically have not used it for eggs but need to, however there is usually some residual left in the cast iron so there is that.
Definitely my favorite bacon....period!

Anyone use Benton’s? It is almost too smokey to eat on its own but I use it to infuse flavor and smoke to a lot of dishes.

Things like shrimp and grits. Crumbled over pan seared scallops.

For those of you that like Wright's, Audi has something called Appleton Farms that is just about as good for less than half the price. I can't tell the difference as an ingredient, and can only marginally tell the difference straight up.

I render lard from pigs I kill and when the mason jar gets low I pour bacon grease in the jar. The best use is in corn bread.
