What do you prefer? I think I like the monopod better because it's small lightweight and easy to adjust. Bags always seem to go flat on me. What do you use?

Yes.. more stable, less bounce, more versatile positioning..

BUT.. I'm talking bench shooting.. For on-the-fly carbine shooting, a iPod or mono-pod..

Bags, bench or prone. Seem to be the most stable for me and easiest to micro-adjust with just a little squeeze

Ok. Now that bags seem to have the advantage.

What brand are you using?

A couple of socks filled with airsoft BBs. And a teddy bear filled with white rice, just for kicks.

I would wager 99.5% will say rear bag and maybe 0.5% will go mono-pod. A pod is not the most stable option, BUT it is always attached to the rifle. I've run one in competition for years and have found it extremely useful and highly adaptable in dynamic shooting situations. I do not run a pod locked and extended but instead buy the longest pod B&T offers and use it as a lever/handle. This is about the only video out there about pod use:

Have someone sew up about six lead shot size bags in the shape of a pillow case. Go scoop up some kitty litter, tie the ends and enjoy. Cheap and light. The litter will position better than sand.

I have both but prefer a bag. I like the idea of having a monopod attached to my rifle just in case I have no bag at the time. In the end my monopod stays folded 99.9% of the time resting on my rear bag. :)

I like the Caldwell Rock Jr.. Stability of a bag, with easy adjustment. Pretty inexpensive, too.

I had used bags previously, till the muzzle blast from one of my .41Mags destroyed the front bag (attempting to stretch 'er out a bit) & decided to try something a bit different. I don't use a rear bag, as I can never seem to get it "set" right & I only use a rest for zero & warm-up purposes. I'm no kinda wannabe benchrest shooter or any kinda super-duper marksman & prefer to do the majority of my shooting offhand or from "field" positions.

Backpack... funny. I actually had to Google it. Got me. That being said, I agree. It also carries useful
stuff, because who wants to haul around sand.

As for DIY, maybe a MOLLE pouch filled with dry beans or rice or kitty litter (Which one is the dessicant bead type)? Lightweight and you can attach it to your whatever.
