It's been a long time since I've had these onions. My plan was to grill some burgers and dogs today after putting some onions on the grill. But, Ma Nature decided to give us some much needed rain today. So, I'll be cooking these in the oven. These things are easy to fix and taste awesome. For you folks that don't know what I'm talking about or have forgotten about them, they are in this old thread.

That brings back some good memories. We made those as a side for pretty much every dinner while camping in Boy Scouts. Double wrap in tinfoil and would take 45 minutes in hot coals. I keep meaning to make some when we have the oyster pit going.

I do something very similar for an onion sauce used on beef. Give this a try, Larry

3 onions, root end cored half way through
Stuff 1 pat butter, 1 bullion cube, and one clove garlic in each.
Put onions in dutch oven. Put 1/2 stick butter, 6 more garlic cloves, and 1 stem of rosemary in the bottom of the dutch oven.
Cover, pop in oven at 350 until garlic in bottom is toasted and onions are soft, 30 min or so?
Pull rosemary sprig out, use your tater masher and mash the ever lovin shit out of the onions until you have a sauce.

We use this a lot on lesser beef cuts (think chuck roast smoked to 140 internal then sliced) and its frickin great.

I've enjoyed this so many times since you first posted it.

Thank you.

They are great and like to throw one on the smoker many times if smoking something. If your in a hurry you can cut it into smaller pieces and it cooks down faster I have found and more tender.
