Baltimore Police making headlines again

Good Lord. I bet this story will go national--even the media overlords will have a hard time keeping this "a local story." I feel sorry for law-abiding folks in Baltimore. What a cesspool.

A fish rots from the head. Just saying.....

This.

In every single organization I've been a part of, family, churches, schools, Scouting, businesses, etc., the character of the organization is completely dependant on the leadership that is provided.

Sometimes the leadership isn't provided. Sometimes it is, but just the wrong kind of leadership.

I did a google search to see who/when it was covered because I didnt remember seeing it.
I got a couple hits from Feb 2 when some plea deals were made and the rest of the hits were from Feb 12 & 13.
Four pages of google results showed articles from literally everybody...for two days.
Then it was like *poof*, it's gone...

As I was reading this, the names Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa came to mind, the NYPD "mafia cops." I believe one died in prison last year.

"At trial, Sgt. Wayne Jenkins, head of the Gun Trace Task Force, said he was inspired by the characters Alonzo Harris from the movie "Training Day" and Omar Little from the television series "The Wire", which was set in Baltimore. He regrets never having had an opportunity to use the grappling hooks he carried in his "Go" bag."

Alright, I made it up, but you can't tell me this guy isn't very familiar with both characters!

So if you or I show up at a bank with $10+k in cash to deposit, its recorded "for the Feds". Seems kind of unbelievable that no one around these guys ever questioned where their found wealth - on a cop salary- was coming from, not family, friends, banks, Feds, etc. so the swamp around them is pretty big. Oh, it's Baltimore...never mind.

Happens in small towns as well. I’m sure there are lots of this going on across the country. Who’s going to turn a cop in when he just steals your illegal stuff and leaves? Nobody. And this is why you don’t welcome a cop in or consent to a search without a warrant and witness. Be afraid, very afraid.

The police keep saying there are a very small number of officers that are bad. What is the definition of a bad cop to the police? Maybe the definition of a bad cop is different to general public.

That money doesn't see the inside of a bank.

And all the good ones work alongside those bad ones so what does that make them?

2 of those yahoos were on the Phylicia Barnes case. Makes you wonder what was real and what wasn't about that case too.

Man you want a bag of mixed nuts look at the comments on facebook about that dismissal.

I generally try not to get sucked into comments sections. It's a breeding ground for ignorance. Anonymity and stupidity are a toxic combination to reasonable debate.

Its kind of like reading the comic strips these days. It's sad that we allow most people to breed.

I just recovered from my laughing fit. Isn't this (and all) forums just big comments sections?

I think the anonymity part is slightly different here, and other forums that have not gone off the deep end. We have some. But for the most part, most of us know how to deal with debate without deteriorating into complete jerks. Usually. Online news comments sections are the wild west of stupid. Like a meeting at high noon to out stupid the other guy.

The “speed up on the crowd and see who runs” tactic is as old as police work. Shake the trees and see what falls out. Not sure how that’s a surprise admission

Not a surprise admission so much as a terroristic tactic in some neighborhoods
