I'll confess - Ive never sat down and watched it straight through.
Ive missed parts, seen them randomly over a few years, not chronologically etc.
And its been years since Ive really sat down to watch an episode.

Well that changed last night.
10 episodes total, I watched 2.5 of it last night, with plans to finish her off by Sunday night.

I forgot how dang good this was.
Also forgot some of the actors in the show that were in this far before they hit it big, like Simon Pegg and Michael Fastbender or whatever his name is

I'd love to see just the interviews from the real guys, like they show at the beginning of each episode

Its on Prime, by the way.
Not sure about Netflix

Jimmy Fallon is in it too, LOL!!!

Band of Brothers is amazing! The Pacific, not so much. Band of Brothers is easily one of the top 5 best programs ever made. I haven't re-watched it in a couple years though, might have to rectify that soon.

Band of Brothers = all time top [some small number] favorite movies/shows. It qualifies as a movie.

Pacific: I tried to get into it. There was no solid plot line to follow like BoB.

They're supposedly making a series about the Mighty 8th. I can't fin much more than rumor talk, and it's been "in the works" now for many years.

The difference in BOB and The Pacific was that BOB is about a troop of brothers surviving through the horrors of combat. The Pacific is more about the horrors of combat with some individuals thrown in that you may or may not care about.

I have the book "With the Old Breed"; a lot more indepth account of "Sledge" from the Pacific and his Peleliu/Oki campaigns

Also, there was a few books I read about the 101st/Band of Brothers thing but I don't remember the titles

Yeah, that was my problem. I honestly had trouble keeping track of who was who in The Pacific, and it only followed a couple of characters. In Band of Brothers, you had plenty of time to learn who each member of the cast was and I had no trouble telling them apart.

Seconded! The book is much better than the mini series.

Another book The Pacific is partly based on is "Helmet for My Pillow" by Robert Leckie. Well worth reading, especially for my fellow Marines.

I agree, its just far fewer people know as much about the pacific theater IMO, so they don't relate to it as much. The reality is the Pacific was Americas war. The battle scenes were as good as any ever produced showing the Pacific war.

I do believe BOB was much better, but Pacific wasn't bad by any means.

For anybody in the Charlotte area that wants to borrow them, I do have both on DVD (non-BluRay, though). Best I remember they both have extras with them, including interviews.

including interviews.

I think my father has the BOB set, I'll borrow it for the interviews.

On episode 6 now.
I'll have her wrapped up by tomorrow night for sure

Both are great. What didnt you like about the pacific?

I posted this before i read your other post. You had trouble following it. I didnt find following it to be a problem. It told several good stories.

I thought the portrayal of one of the great Marines in history, John Basilone in the Pacific series was excellent, and the series is worth watching for the Guadalcanal and Peleliu battle scenes alone. The Marines taking the airfield on Palilou is the epitome of US Marine bravery and fighting skill. Truly gut wrenching and inspiring at the same time. I think the series clearly shows how brutal and desperate the island hopping campaign was. I believe in WW2 only the fighting on the eastern front between Germany and USSR was anywhere near comparable. The Japs fought to the death and last man on nearly every island and there was no were to retreat too.

As far a which do I like better? I liked the characters and actors in BOB better but I think the focus in the Pacific series was more about showing the shear horror and desperate nature of the island hoping campaigns and that was done exceeding well.

"At Peleliu, Bloody Nose Ridge had soaked up the blood of the division like a sponge. The 5th Marines had suffered 1,378 casualties, about 43 percent; the 7th Marines had sustained 1,497 casualties, about 46 percent; all combined with the 1st Marines casualties, the total for the division was 6,786 casualties with over 1,300 killed in action. Eight Marines won the Medal of Honor. When the fight was finally over, the 81st Division had suffered another 3,278 casualties including those incurred on Angaur. Almost 10,900 Japanese had been killed. There had been a total of more than 14,000 violent deaths within a 6 by 2-mile island. Yet only a short 5 months later, on 1 April 1945, the 1st Marine Division landed on Okinawa".

God bless our greatest generation.....at least I have not forgotten what you did of our nation.

Spoiler alert - The Allies win. ...Yeah, caught me off guard too!

Bob was great. Great writing, great directing, great musical score, just....great.

The book was outstanding as well, and should be read either before or after as a companion piece.

Y'know, as I sit here looking at my bookshelf, I have six Stephen Ambrose books, but somehow Band of Brothers is not among them. Need to fix that one of these days.
