So I'm looking to buy a custom gun to run in open class PRS. Ive narrowed it down to two I have a few questions though. one of them is an MPA build and it runs their MPA/Spencer barrel and the other is from Stuteville precision and its a Bartlien ( SP?). I'm new to the LR gun world and have heard of the Bartlien so there no question there. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the quality of the MPA/Spencer barrels? On MPA"s website it says they bought out Spencer barrels a few years back and goes through all the steps. Anyways thanks in advance!

I have an mpa in 6mm Creed it shoots factory 108 at less than 1/2 inch at 100 yards in a rest.

What caliber?

MPA also has all of the action specs on file. They will make you a new barrel without having to send your action in.

There are loads of good barrels out there. I've always used Lilja and Hawk Hill. Kreiger, Bartlien and others are all good barrels. However, even a good barrel needs to be hand lapped. Don't let somebody monkey around with it that doesn't have a proven track record of good work.

I was.thinking that most aftermarket match grade barrels are lapped. I think that both my Kreiger and Benchmark were. IIRC there were 2 "L"'s stamped into the end of the barrel which indicated it was lapped twice.

All the top tier custom rifle barrels are lapped by the manufacturer with the exception of Douglas as far as I know.
