BCM TRAINING TIP - LAV'S 50% RULE

Larry walks you through his 50% Rule. A Training Tip to help minimize any of the possible issues you may run into while using an AR15.

I certainly respect Larry Vickers, and I do all of those things already. Except. Why the 2 round reduction in the loaded mag? Of course I have a good idea of the underlying logic, but I'm not sure that I believe that this is a problem source, having never had a problem traceable to a fully loaded mag. Have any of you?

Also, why don't manufacturers make 32 round mags if this is such a big deal?

A good quality mag will work fine with 30rds in it but it is easier to do a reload with the bolt in battery with a down loaded mag.

Yep. A lot of problems (and I bet he sees a lot in classes) is mags that aren’t fully seated, and so the downloaded mags and the pull check are prevent and catch those respectively.

Seating a fully loaded mag in a bolt closed AR can be problematic, which means you need to ensure the bolt is open. Much easier to strip 2 rounds off every mag, then it doesn't matter if the bolt is open or closed.
