BCM Triple 5 Range Drill

Stage 1) 3 yards, one head shot strong hand only

Stage 2) 5 yards, one head shot using both hands on the gun

Stage 3) 7 yards, one head shot using both hands on the gun

Stage 4) 10 yards, two body shots using both hands on the gun.

At the completion of the exercise, you should have three head shots and two body shots on your target. Each string of fire must have started with the gun in the holster and must be completed within the 2.5 second time limit. Any misses or shots after the time limit indicate a failure of the drill. How do you think you would do?

Goes against my personal philosophy but I'm a realist, not a gamer....
I prefer to have a couple of body shots first before going for the higher risk head shots. 2 into the body at bone points followed by one to the head. Repeat as needed.....
As to the game, I'd do just fine.... I'm not a firm believer in one hand shots, I have 2 why not use them?? Doesn't take any longer...

BOB, give us the exact sequence for "The Wizard" .......
You need:
1. Your preferred handgun. It Must be carried Concealed.
2. An IDPA or IPSC or B27 or it's like.
3. 5 rounds loaded
4. From 3 yards..on the buzzer..draw and fire one round, one handed, in the head.
5. From 5 yards..on the buzzer...draw and fire Free Style, one shot in the head.
6. From 7 yards...Repeat above
7. From 10 yards..on the buzzer...draw and fire 2 rounds in center A zone.
ALL POSITIONS ARE TO BE FIRED IN UNDER 2.5 SECONDS.
If you pocket carry, you start with your hand on your gun.
Scoring is absolute..you miss at any stage..you fail.
You go over 2.5 seconds at any stage...you fail.
This damn thing is aggravating to no end. 5 shots..that's it.
The single caveat is...IT MUST BE DONE COLD. Completing it after the second or 10th try means Nothing!

I'm sure you think you would do just fine. PLEASE, come in October or before. Try it. It will be quite a challenge, I promise.
Remember CONCEALED..and COLD.
I have seen this done ONCE in several years by a person the first time out...ONCE.

As I get older I have a different point of view on this and its still developing. I feel a lot of what anyone who is formally trained would identify as the fundamentals struggle with the application of them because they do not always apply when using a firearm.

Or at the least, the fundamentals are miss placed and/or dead wrong in the communication aspect for training.

Its something to think about.

And as I've gotten older, I've seen lots of folks at the range from raw noobs to guys who shoot F Class successfully. Say what you want, trigger control, sight pic, breathing are fundamental to ANY type if shooting, doesn't matter if it's pew pew or F Class.

I used to shoot 3G, IDPA, and USPSA, never won but was mostly in the upper 50%. Now I shoot black powder competitively. Just like golf (a waste of a good rifle range), good technique and consistency are critical to good results and even more so with low muzzle velocity and glacial lock times. This gets even more critical with flintlocks. All these guys are doing is speeding up.

I doubt I'll make it down with my guide service hunting obligations every year but maybe I'll do a video instead?? I've got a brand new GoPro 7...

Fully agree,

I think the issue i have is how its packaged as a group of actions for x result.

Don't say I didn't offer..... We can make it a full day if that makes any difference?? Just imagine, a morning session with centerfire and then an afternoon session with rimfire with a 4 star BBQ lunch at Hendricks in between....

Sounds great but your retired and I'm not. I acually looked at joining H20 or PSA37 so I could shoot outside but they wouldn't be beneficial to me. I have a membership at Gunsplus in F'ville but can only go on the weekends

For the folks coming to the gettogether May 25, you will have the opportunity to try this drill, concealed, and cold.
Let the haters hate.

I had never heard of the Wizard until Billy mentioned it a while back. Simce then, Ive only tried it a handful of times.
Believe me when I say: I will not embarrass myself in front of witnesses :p
Lemme have my hate :D

Yep!!! The maddening thing about it to me is..it's the simplest test with the fewest shots to show where your weaknesses are for the platform You chose to bet your life on.

I did. In front of @BatteryOaksBilly (and my son) last year.

Not only was it the first time I’d tried the drill, it was the first time I’d ever been on the range with a shot timer running. Then had my son try it...but from low ready instead of concealed.

The success rate is so low for most people that nobody should hesitate trying it. You never know what somebody there might spot in your method that would be a tremendous help.

It caused me to go home and order a timer...just need to get it out of the box and use it.

Oh...and in case anybody assumed otherwise, I was 0-fer. :p

I didn’t get a single shot off in 2.5 or less. I do think I hit 2.51 or 2.52 on one of them. All were <3 (even the double at 10yds), but nothing under 2.5...and I think one of my head shots hit the shoulder instead. Overall I was pleased, even surprised...but the Wizard was definitely not dead. :D

Gonna try this drill.
Never do any training with carry guns, lol. Never really try drawing from concealment either.

Should be pretty ugly.

Believe me when I say it can get pretty ugly pretty quick lol.
Definitely highlighted some emphasis points for me

Man, you sick bast--

Oh, pop some caps with them, not in them. My bad.
Yeah, That could get ugly....fast. Seriously, you all know by now that you are welcome here all the time. The gas and time you use to get here is easy since All Else is FREE!!>
