Anyone know where i can ger bulk beef jerky for a good price?

I can get costco brand jerky for $1 an oz. So ideally id like cheaper than that.

Last time I made it, I used just the gas pilot on the oven. Must be a million years ago ‘cause who has a live pilot anymore?

This- just try to slice the strips in a consistent thickness so they dry evenly.

Last deer I killed I had the guy processing it cut jerky strips for me. My goodness it was perfect! No clue what part of the deer it was from but man. Perfect about one inch wide about 3-4 long.

I picked up a bag of this yesterday and it is quite tasty:

For making your own at Home getting below $1 per ounce is doable'ish with enough batches. Flank steak at Sam's is $7.89 per lbs and you can buy your soy and Worcestershire sauce in bulk along with the spices.

I've had good success with Alton Brown recipe from Good Eats:

One caveat with his furnace filter and box fan method is it does require a certain range of ambient temps (65F and up work best) as well as not too high %RH. The lower the ambient temp the lower %RH you will need to avoid spoilage/mold.

Honestly if you are serious about making this regularly just invest in a good food dehydrator.

$8 per pound beef does not translate into $8 per pound (50 cents per ounce) jerky. Given that dehydration into jerky normally reduces the net weight by 50 to 67%, you’d be lucky to have your finished jerky ONLY cost you $1 per net ounce. ;)

Alton Brown’s recipe indicates that 24 to 32 ounces of meat will produce ONLY 10 to 12 ounces of jerky.

^^ this.
You're not going to save money at $1 an oz bagged jerky, what you will get is control of the taste and what all is put into the food you're going to be eating. Get a dehydrator, make your own jerky, dried fruit and veggies, dried spices, etc. It's more about better food than cheaper food.

A decent food slicer and a dehydrator and you're good to go. No place to hunt to I just beg for scrap deer meat now................:(:(:(:(
