Getting ready to run down the suppressor rabbit hole. I plan to start with a .22 can and want one that can work with rifle or pistol. But I also will need thoughts on the pistol and rifle, lol.

I have a few 10/22 that I can use for base of rifle. The only pistol I have in .22 that is suppressor ready-ish, is a M&P , not the compact. I think it just uses an adapter

I don't want drop a ton in this but do want reliable stuff that runs well. Not opposed to different rifle and or pistol, but do want them to be able to use same can.

Thoughts?

Find an AAC Element 2 if you can. Hansohn Brothers had some for $300 within the last couple days.

Almost all rimfire cans work on pistol and rifle. There are just some that have more first round pop (FRP) on shorter barrels.

The M&P 22 is fine. Just get the adapter. Then do yourself a favor and buy a 22LR bolt gun with a threaded barrel.

I chose the SPECTRE II for my first .22 suppressor. All steel construction and rated for .17 HMR | .22 Hornet | .22 LR (Full-Auto) | .22 MAG | 5.7x28 FN. This multi-caliber suppressor also had a low FRP.

Host weapons:
1) Ruger, 10/22
2) Savage, FV-SR
3) AR-15 (SBR), with a dedicated CMMG .22 barrel (4.5") & BCG
4) Ruger, 22/45

Also, if you keep the barrel under 5" most all brands of ammo will stay subsonic. Don't spend extra money on speciality "subsonic" ammo unless your running it in a rifle length barrel.

Enjoy,

M&P .22 compact and a M&P 15-22. GA Checkmate QD and a couple of tri-lug adapters.

I have this. I'm not much help, otherwise.

Thanks guys, that give me a starting point. Got to get all my paperwork filled out and then begin the wait!

The reality is it’s fairly hard to go “wrong” with today’s rimfire offerings. I could add another dozen or so to the list, and you’d be happy with any of them.

I’d lean towards non-aluminum baffles, but that’s a majority of the offerings out there anyway.

I have a Griffin Armament checkmate, and I like it. However, if I were to buy a second 22lr can, I would definitely get Dead Air's mask 22 for several reasons.

What are the reasons?

I'd look at the Ruger MkIV 22/45 Tactical or the regular MkIV Tactical. I like my Buckmark & it's every so slightly more accurate than our tricked out MkII, I just prefer the Rugers & wish the PacLite 'upper' on the MkII was threaded.

I got to shoot Tom's 22/45 with a C-More & loved it. A Ruger MkIV with an optic would be the perfect host for a can, IMO. I like my Thompson Machine Isis22, but really wish I'd spent a hair more & bought a better quality can.

mj1, I too am fixing to find that rabbit hole. The problem that I have is none of my guns are threaded except my ARs.

Pistol:
I like the Sig/GSG 1911-.22. Full size, good weight etc. No blowback, cycles anything I put in it (besides ultra low power rounds).

Rifle:
The Savage FVSR is a good off the shelf option but the stock sucks. Might be able to find an upgraded one for sale

CZ has some great options for bolt guns

Volquarten/Summit rifles are great but pricey.

Dead Air Mask or Rugged Oculus good choices for cans

I love my CZ 75 Kadet Kit that I got threaded. It's an awesome host. So is a CZ 455 tacticool for a .22 bolt gun.

Pic no show for me...:(

My new SP01 tactical should arrive any day now and I'm eyeballing the Kadet Kit bad. Who threaded it and approximate cost? Or do they make a threaded version that I have missed?

That would be a really fantastic suppressor host.

I went with tornado technologies for the extending and threading service. They do a bunch apparently because extending and threading a kadet kit is specifically called out on their site.

I think it was $172 with shipping

What are the reasons?
Outer tube is titanium vs aluminum, baffles click together (keeps tube cleaner), baffles have orientation notches so you can only put it together one way.

The titanium is a nice touch for durability. The checkmate baffles don't click together so the tube gets pretty nasty. The mask 22 click together baffles will help this, I'm sure it wont completely solve it but it will be way better. Eventually all that crap creates rings around the tube and it starts to get difficult to disassemble/reassemble. You then have to take a cylinder hone to clean it out. I worry about doing this over time with the soft aluminum of the checkmate.

The orientation of the blast baffle matters on the checkmate for POI. When I would put it together I would try to always align it with the text of the can but it would always spin when tightened down and I could never get it back exactly without a lot of screwing around. Also the quick detach would spin it as well until it got dirty enough to lock in. Not a big deal for pistols but I would have to zero rifles every time I took the can apart to clean it. I circumvented this by just putting the blast baffle last so it didn't matter as much, but the Mask 22 doesn't have this issue.

Knowing what I know now, screw the decibel ratings and all that nonsense. You can't tell a difference of a couple decibels anyway unless you are shooting them side by side. On a rimfire can, it's still going to be quiet and awesome. Pay attention to the breakdown/cleaning process and the materials they use. This thing has to last a lifetime so stay away from aluminum if you can. Stainless steel baffles you can tumble without issue to clean. Titanium is way harder than aluminum and similar weight.

In my opinion, maintenance and durability are the only things you should be comparing in a rimfire can.

What barrels do yall like on 10/22?
I shoot my cut down factory barrel 100X more than the gun with a HB from Olympic Arms. It is lighter and plenty accurate for plinking or small game.
One thing that improved the 10/22's function with subs is a Tubbs chrome silicon recoil spring, sadly I don't see them produced any longer.

ETA: I also ground a slight radius on the rear edge of the bolt.

Dont forget to look at the Thunderbeast .22 Takedown suppressor. Very light and very quiet.
