who makes the best at a good price point my father in law has the Traeger I have also looked at the pit boss Price point is $500-$800 or so

Pitboss has been great for us, and we have a BGE too.

Pitboss. They’ve got several new models out this year. Check them out. Newer, bigger ones that do a variety of things at once

Best? Ha. How much $ does Daddy have?

I have this one. IMO it is very good, but maybe not the best.

I have heard praise of these guys.

There are lots of choices out there. I’d look at country of origin and the gauge steel used. If it’s sold at a big box store it is likely not a serious cooking tool. Then again a good cook can do really well with a $50 Weber kettle so it all depends on the cook and how they will use the grill.

Rec Tec all the way...... got rid of my Traeger and you'll throw rocks at a PittBoss

I spent awhile researching different brands. Ended up with a Camp Chef DLX. I am really liking it. The quick ash clean out and the trap door to change out the pellets were two big features I was looking for. I do wish it had the sliding piece so I could do some direct heat cooking to finish off a steak - that would be the only thing I can think of that it's missing.

I enjoy my Traeger and will likely replace it with another, more up to date Traeger when this one wears out.

We got a Pitt Boss 700FB from Walmart on clearance (already assembled). It is a very basic older model and does a great job for us. No bells and whistles on this one. I think the key for good operation is to keep the fire bowl area clean. I vacuum it after every use, but that is just me. We only paid $222 for a $397 original price. You should be able to get a great pellet grill for your stated price point. Good luck!!!

Which ever one you buy. Do yourself a favor and buy one bigger than you think you need.

Once you start laying meat on the grates it fills up faster than you would think.

I did 4 racks of ribs and 2 whole chickens today amd the bottom rack was full

What brand of pellets are you guys preferring and where do you get them?

I was given a bag of pitboss brand competition pellets. I'm pretty much out and would like to try something different.

Local gun store near me sells LumberJack brand. I've been using those so far.

I've used Pitt Boss competition ($15) from Walmart and Smokehouse pellets from Sam's Club. The Smokehouse were $12 for a 40 pound bag. They both worked adequately and I couldn't tell much difference. Everyone raves about the Lumberjack brand.

I use the pitboss hickory and the apple. Most times I just mix them in a 5 gallon bucket then use them

I've used a handful of different flavors. I think the Traeger pellets are superior, but they're also twice the price of the pitboss. I like to mix the pitboss comp blend with some Traeger hickory and mesquite...

I use mostly BBQ Delight pellets. Buy them at Grillbillies in Wake Forest. Don’t worry about cost too much as the pellets are nothing compared to the food and grill costs anyway.
