I think I may have posted this before on a previous forum, but I'm not sure. If you need to rent a piece of equipment and like good customer service, go to bigrentz.com. I've rented four or five times from them and their customer service is the best I've ever experienced.

Two weeks ago, I reserved a JLG 400S boom lift for this week (9/11 - 9/18). I got a call Friday from them asking if I wanted to delay my rental because of the uncertainty of Hurricane Irma. It completely slipped my mind or I would've called them to postpone my rental. Their rental call center is in California. They were proactive by contacting their east coast customers and offering the postponement.

This morning, the boom lift showed up anyway. I called bigrentz and told them it got delivered anyway and was parked on my driveway. I told them that they could leave it there if they wanted to because it wasn't in my way, but I wasn't planning to start using it until the 18th. Within 30 minutes a lowboy showed up and got it.

The previous times I've rented from them were equally impressive. They seem to be on top of their game. It's refreshing to deal with a company that operates as a servant to the consumer (the entity that pays the bills) instead of a servant to the corporation by going "lean" at the expense of customer service. That can't happen and will kill a company every time. These folks seem to have that part figured out.

So the next time you want to rent a piece of equipment, try them out. I went this route a few years ago after calling six or seven rental places around town and either never received a call back, or was told the equipment wasn't available for six months or so because of long-term contracts, etc....

Thanks for the heads up and review. I'm going to check them out. We used to have a local place that I could rent all kinds of equipment from. The big box boys, Home Depot and Lowe's shut them down. It would be nice to have an alternative.

They may not be the cheapest alternative, but they get it done. They deliver the equipment right to your location and pick it up when you're finished with it. That's nice since some of the stuff I've rented required a lowboy for transport.

The way you described it I kinda' figured it was "you get what you pay for". Which is fine with that kind of customer service.

This will be a time saver. I'm redoing this upper deck off of our bedroom to match our lower deck. Just tore down the ugly posts and railing this evening. Walking up and down the stairs over and over isn't going to happen with this project. Hopefully I'll have it done by Friday. At least everything except the cable. That takes a little longer to finish.

Of course my son had to get in on the action.

Well, I got everything done that required this lift. Just installed the two posts on the right today. They come and pick the lift up tomorrow. No way I could have done this project without it. Now all I need to do is install the stainless hardware that will match the lower deck, and then next summer, apply a coat of Cabot Australian Timber Oil to the wood as we did this past summer on the lower deck. Won't need a lift for either of those two remaining steps.

On a side note, the first three posts went on without a hitch. All three were perfectly level and required no shims. The last post on the very right was a different story. I must have been off a little on my last pass with the circular saw yesterday when I notched that post. I got it up there and after I notched the deck plank overhang, my son set it down on the deck and lined it up. It looked awful. It was leaning inward towards the other posts and was also leaning out away from the house. Nothing 4 little wedge shims couldn't fix however. The notched section that was resting on the deck was probably only off by about 1/8th of an inch or so, but that little bit of an error gets magnified as you look up the post to the top.

Anyway, the lift worked out great and if you need a piece of equipment for a project, again, I'd recommend BigRentz.

Now that the posts, planks, and fascia board have dried out, I just finished staining the posts, fascia, and outer plank with Australian Timber Oil.

Tomorrow, I will start installing the stainless handrail and cables. A boom lift came in handy again.

On the coast of Florida they don’t refer to those as houses. They’re called compounds.
