Looking for some novice to intermediate bike trails. Had to give up running due to bad knees. Thanks to the hot deals thread I picked up a bike. Going to give cycling a try for keeping in shape. Don’t care to ride with traffic. Looking for areas that’s safe for a new guy cause I’m dangerous enough without vehicles around lol!

I’m in the Siler City area and willing to travel up to 2 hours one way for weekend trips and up to a hour other wise.

There are a couple of tracks near Broadway in Moore County, they do use them for some races from time to time but otherwise open to the public.

You are close to the Uwarrie, there are hundreds of miles of tracks. Chapel Hill has probably 30 or 40 miles of tracks.

In sanford, there's Governors Creek trails. Solid intermediate trail. Fun place to ride.

Towards cary, there's Harris Lake bike trails. Their "hard" trails are easier than Governors Creek's trails. Not difficult, but probably my favorite place to ride.

Governor's Creek, that's the one I was talking about near Broadway in Carthage. Not technically difficult, not super long, but enough to be a good and challenging ride.

Sherman Branch is big bike trail area in Charlotte off 485 owned by Meck Parks and Rec, also there are the trails at Whitewater Center....if you are lost in Mecklenburg county that is.

My friends who bike at Sherman really love the place and say it's not usually crowded but I expect with all this rain we have gotten in February that it's probably in bad shape ATM

Trail link has come in handy for me. You can research areas where ever and read good reviews.

@Average Joe , How many miles do you ride? Solo or looking to ride with others? I am new to it as well. Doing 5-7 miles on the roads around the house as often as possible and 10 or more when I can get to a good path.

http://www.trianglemtb.com/ is worth checking out, but I've always just used the Strava heatmap to find most places. Crabtree offers some nice intermediate stuff. There's also some "off the books" trails not too far from them that are a little more technical. There's a couple of spots in the RTP area also.

Thanks for all the information! Defiantly what I needed. @bigfelipe Haven't ridden the first mile yet. Hoping the rain will hold off long enough this weekend to get out. 5 to 7 miles sounds pretty reasonable to me. I have a riding partner, but she will not be able to ride every trip. We would be interested in meeting and riding a few trails with others as well. How often do you ride?

I try to ride 3-4 times a week. Been tough with the rain lately. Down to meet up for a ride too. The ol'lady is getting a new bike in a couple weeks. She rides my old Raleigh with me some now. Hit me up if you're down. I'm just getting into it too...

@bigfelipe, @OutLore and any other members that would like to do a group ride. Sounds like a great idea, I'm in the Siler City area. What would be a convenient location for everyone?

City of Greensboro has >40 miles of well maintained MTB trails and good Greenway system, with various access points all over the city. They also have a cool pump track on east side of town.
pump track?

Who's up for a ride on 03-17-19? And darn looks like it's St Patrick's Day, guess it's like an unwritten law we must grab a beer afterward!

Now you are speaking my language!

I dont want to derail thread, but I posted earlier today in the Walmart thread - Walmart has a bunch of tubes marked down to 1.50!
I picked up 2 Goodyear brand 'heavy duty' for 3 bucks, with spoons, and they had other sizes (I took all the 27.5" they had at the particular store)

Just wanted to give a heads up in a biking thread
