Yesterday I took some weapons out to put some rounds through them and test my reloads as well. My redhawk performed flawlessly both with factory and my reloads I went to shoot my Blackhawk after first shot it stopped indexing so I unloaded it and worked it and it would turn about every other try then it quit altogether. thoughts?

It wouldnt turn while unloaded?

I had a Super Blackhawk and would spin the cylinder and look in the loading gate to ensure it was empty. After enough of this, the teeth on the back of the cylinder began to show wear. I switched to removing the cylinder and never had an issue with failure to index, but it would have had to have a lot more wear before that would have happened.

My guess would be the little arm (the pawl?) that engages those teeth is broken or misaligned.

Is the cylinder pin (the pin around which the cylinder rotates) all the way in and locked? There is a spring loaded plunger on the rear end that keeps the transfer bar from hanging up on the firing pin. The cylinder may not turn when trying to cock the hammer if the pin is not all the way in.

I had a used Vaquero that would over rotate when cocked quickly. I had to send it back to Ruger to get it fixed. Give them a call.

I had issues with one awhile back. It was a New Vaquero though. The cylinder to forcing cone gap was too tight. Didn't take but about 3 cylinders to get it fouled up enough to cause issues turning. I had to send back to Ruger. They shaved the cylinder down. Never a problem since.

Will the hammer cock, or does it all just lock up?
working fine now not even sure what happened lol I took cylinder out looked at it seen nothing put it back and it worked like a charm maybe something wasn't together right before...

Possibly a loose nut behind the grip?;) I myself have encountered this before!

My father has a Blackhawk in 41 Magnum. We were at the range yesterday and his started acting up. It would cycle a entire cylinder fine. Then on the reload the hammer would cock but the cylinder wouldn't turn. You could pull the hammer back a few times and it would turn 2-3 times then stop turning?????
