Bloody Butcher Corn

I was over at my cousin's house Saturday morning helping him "nub" some of his white corn, getting it ready to shell and then grind. I suspect this will be his last year being able to grow and grind the corn as he is going down his fast and has fallen a couple of times and can't get up. He will be 84 in January.

I took a picture of his latest sheller project. He found it down east some where and brought it home. It is a McCormick Deering by International Harvester. He modified it to match his other sheller. Put an electric motor and a specific pully off of an old AC combine to get the same speed as turning it by hand. Mounted it onto a mobile base and added a new sheet metal chute underneath. He has several more of the old combine pullies in a box ready to convert more shellers.

This is both of them side by side. A couple more of his grist mills are right behind the shellers. 2nd pic is a 2 ear sheller that is mostly wood and has no name or markings on it. It has a flywheel that weighs probably 125# laying on the floor in front of it. You can't move the sheller with the flywheel on it or it will tip over.

You need to take over for him to keep this alive.

@beamernc

Amazing!!! Thank you for sharing that. 84 is a good long life in any century!!! I pray his health is strong to the end; his wit has not failed him if he has done all that!
