The wood transom on my 16' Old town square stern rotted. It was 5/8" marine grade plywood.
I cannot find a pre-cut replacement.

Does anyone have any tips on replacement? I see plywood for sale in 4x8 sheets, but I only need 15x18".
A full sheet is $100+.

If I use regular pressure treated plywood, should I epoxy it? Paint it?

Any source for scrap marine plywood?

Pressure treated ply will not need to be coated. It is designed to be exposed to weather and rot resistant.
" Marine " ply is not rot resistant and does need to be coated to prevent rot. The " marine " part is that it has waterproof glue. Regular ply if used, will need to be completely encapsulated, to prevent rot and make it waterproof... (Until you put a hole bolting it in. )
If I were you, Go to lowes get a 2x2' piece of pressure treated, clean it up, fill the voids, paint it a nice brown or tan or what ever you fancy. It will work out perfectly

DO NOT use pressure treated wood (of any description) if it may be in contact with aluminum. The aluminum will disappear before your eyes. Go to www.tinboats.net and check classifieds or join (free) and place a wanted ad for a suitable material.

If it were me I would be looking for a non wood solution, a composite of some sort so it never rots out again.
If you can figure you minimum size I may have a piece here in the shop. The largest I have at this time is 14.5 x 14.5 and a couple of pieces smaller. You may want to look at using poly cutting boards if you can find a suitable size....

Use composite and 316 stainless fasteners and your problem is gone..... forever...

Do a search for it on eBay. You may find it cheaper. This was the first piece I came to. Pretty good stuff. I made a platform this weekend for my kayak for my dog to stand on

Starboard. Period. Look at my link above. It's way stronger than plywood
