I got this boat paddle 10/22 in a trade on Christmas Day. I'm not sure if the trigger guts have been replaced or polished but the trigger is very nice. I put a Primary Arms red dot on it. Maybe I can get it dialed in tomorrow.

Ok, I am completely ignorant on this one. What is the benefit or draw of a 'boat paddle' stock?

For a canoe or kayak while shooting squirrels on the shore?

It's a very well thought out design.

The intent is that, if a squirrel chucks an acorn at your head while you're hunting, use the paddle stock to whack the acorn back. The squirrel will instinctively track the path of the flying acorn; while he's thus distracted, shoulder the weapon and shoot him.

Works every time (as long as you do your part and hit the acorn).

Ruger made several of their rifles with these skeletonized looking Zytel stocks. People started calling them boat paddles because of the look and lots of folks seemed to hate on them. Some of us however like them quite a bit.

I have the twin of the rifle in the OP as well as M77s in .30-06, .308 and .22 with boat paddles.

Ruger rifles with stainless and this stock were called the All Weather model. Rumor has it that not many 10/22's were made with this stock. Not sure about today but, the stock alone would sell for over $100 a couple of years ago. I'm kinda indifferent to it myself.

Had a M77 with the synthetic stock. Stock Ruger rifles with scopes barely work for me. Guessing my head is crooked. Certainly the post 68 Win M70 was the best fit. Made it OK with scoped BAR.
But, the boat paddle qualified as an open sight only gun.
Pulled it off and peddled it on eBay. Put a Hogue synthetic and it was OK.

From the looks of it, would have to have a 1” thick cheek or Monte Carlo addition to fit my physique.

Cool looking rifle...

Curious. Do shooters that can’t get a consistent cheek “spot weld” have issues of parallax with ill fitting guns? Does the optics in the Red dot make that a non issue?

The red dot rides low on the receiver so I can get down on the stock without problem. It's been either cold or windy here since Christmas so I haven't got to shoot it yet. Hopefully, that will change soon. I need to sight in this red dot and the red dot on my AR pistol.

My vision problems and correction make using a scope a challenge these days. It's hard for me to get myself focused in the scope. I can see reall good over yonder but can't see anything up close. So, I wear one contact in my right eye for reading and up close stuff. This makes a scope difficult to use. I can do pretty well with a red dot but I have to keep the dot intensity down low or I'll get a "splash" around the dot when I go higher.

If you ever get indifferent enough that t
You want to sell the rifle, or even the stock..... Let me know huh?

What a Boat Paddle 10/22 go for these days if you can find one?

I don't see them around often enough to know. This is the first one I had seen in a long time.
