Meh. I find there is a lot of value in aggregate reviews, such as the IMDB rating. From experience I've found that if the rating is <7, I will almost always find the movie to be a waste of time. 7-8 could be worthwhile if it's in a genre I tend to enjoy. >8 and odds are good I'll enjoy it even outside my favored genres.
Sure, but that requires investing the time to watch the movie. Something I'm not willing to do unless I have some indicators that the time won't be wasted - which is where aggregate ratings come into play. And if ratings are borderline, I'll invest a few minutes to watch the trailer.
Taking Bright as an example: a few people here said they enjoyed it. OK, I'm curious, and check IMDB, and it's 6.7. Strong indication that this will suck. But since guys here like it and it's a cop movie, I'll spend a few min to watch the trailer. Trailer is awful, I'm out, and fairly confident that I sidestepped a total waste of viewing time.
