Bought a BHP MKIII that had considerable finish wear. Stripped it down and gave it a good glass beading to remove the old blue/paint/whatever finish was on it, degreased it, then let it swim in the parkerizing tank for about 10mins, After that, a good cold water wash and a dunk in the WD40 tub,, turned out rather well. Now for grips and night sights

Looks great....leave it alone and Shoot it!!!!!

I did that today....ran like a top on 115gr Fed HiShok HP`s, rear sight just needs a slight push to the right. Didn`t want to beat on it, so I`ll take it to the local `smith to have at it with his sight pusher.

One thing I had forgotten from my 1st HP was hammer bite, lol. The web of my hand is kinda fat and gets in the way sometimes. A commander style hammer will be ordered this week. For the time being, I`ll leave the grips and sights as they are.

A commander style hammer unless it is a "no bite" version is going to bit you more than the factory spur. I don't get bitten but this is what people like Ted Yost and Don Williams have told me. If the hammer bites you look for a No bite C&S hammer and sear set.

I love Hi Powers. My current fav is an old MKII. I’ve removed the trigger safety, installed Heinie sights, a C&S rounded hammer and sear and replaced the factory grips with some very nice palm swell G10 grips from VZ grips.

This^^^^ Just shorten the spur on the hammer. It's easy to do and works!

C&S has a no bite hammer with a cutout that minimizes hammer pinch between the hammer and grip frame. I don’t have a problem with the OEM hammer pinching, but the spur digs into my hands during anything other than slow deliberate fire. Trimming the spur does work with a little dremmel/file work.
