I have a Honda 250 nighthawk that doesn't get much use( basically its a street legal dirt bike). I have camouflaged it just because lol. I'm thinking of adding 50 cal ammo cans as saddle bags and hitting the chrome with high temp paint on the exhaust. I think it would be great for a single person trying to get gone on or off road. Maybe add a small rack to the rear to hold a backpack or extra gas can. Am I crazy? Stupied?

Worse case is you have an adventure bike to go where ever you please.

Not crazy not stupid. What your wanting to do is pretty common on dual sport/adventure bikes these days. One day Imma ride the TAT on a KLR or V-strom

Whats the TAT?

I've got a KLR and I've considered the ammo can route but I want the big ones with the dual latches but they're awful heavy. 50 cals just seem kind of small.

TransAmerica Trail.

There is a 09 KLR that have less than 10k on it with hard shell “saddle” bags that is for sale. I thought about sell the GSXR to fund it as I want a bike I can ride no matter the weather

Not crazy, go join ADVrider.com and see where other's have done the same.
Though I wouldn't say that a nighthawk is 'basically a street legal dirt bike' based on frame, suspension, ground clearance etc

That's what I have, an '09. Bought it about 5 months ago with only 2300 miles on it. Got over 6K on it now. ;) If you do get it and want someone to ride with let me know.

Ive always had sport bikes, Buells. I do have a small dirtbike, but I keep thinking of a more standard bike. A sportster or ADV type bike. Something more relaxed as I dont need a bike capable of crazy lean angles etc for my street riding
That TW200 posted looks awesome, I'll need to look those up.
Familiar with KLR, having Kaw dirtbike Im slightly partial to the brand already

Awesome. I figured I could probably get it for 3600 or even 3200 since it has been up for sale for a while. But a new motorcycle is gonna have to wait till next year lol

Boone area?

The one I am talking about is local in Wilkesboro. I haven't found it online anywhere lol

Also - screw you @Daleo8803 and @Flashpoint and @backwoodsshooter for making me dig around CL for adv bikes now... lol

lmao. They be a lot of options to choose from. Money wise, I will probably get a KLR. But I would love to have a V-Strom 1000 but is is a few grand more than the 650. The Versy 650 is a parrel twin and the 1000 is a 4cyl and I don't want a 4cyl adventure bike lol. The XR650 is a twin also and the African Twin is god aweful expensive. Same with the KTM, BMW, and Triumph adventure bikes lol

I'd seen a red 09 on CL for Boone with hard cases for 4k, didnt know if that was the one you were looking at or not

KLR, DR650, XR650, etc... can be had for really cheap used and have an ability to “get over that way” that will make you laugh at off-Road trucks, Jeeps, etc....
Once you start on them though, it is a sickness every bit equal to guns. You have been warned.

The nighthawk would get you places you would want to go if you are a “bug out” guy, with the right tires.

I am in no way into “bug out”...stuff, but here is my bike, just because.
