Ive already built a desk, that I currently use and have been for a few years. Im happy with the outcome for the most part. But I will be building another and am going to use a pocket hole jig this time to make things a little nicer. The top will be made out of 2x6's... Planers are expensive, but I might be able to borrow one.. Is it necessary or can I achieve the same results just buy sanding the top, when its done?

I would skip the pocket screws and only use Tightbond 2 glue. I would also skip the biscuits - they are only really good to assist with alignment and a set of cauls will achieve the same thing.

Instead of buying "2x6's" why don't you visit a reputable lumber yard and buy good random width boards?

We can provide S4S lumber (ready for glue up), as can the Hardwood Store in Gibsonville (they are closer to you than we are).

I have a planer, and a jointer, if you can come by we can take care of it.

For some reason, I really like your setup.

Thx. It was easy peasy to do. Legs are 3/4" structural pipe from lowes painted flat black. They make it too easy to build this stuff. Gonna do something similar for a coffee table.

Basically cut the lumber down on my table and chop saw, biscuit joiner and glue. Ton of sanding. Routed edges. Minwax honey stain after pre conditioner. Then oil based poly, sanded, more poly.

Trying to cut these 1x2’s to fit corner to corner to make an X. Stupid question.... what angle to I cut it at?

I thought 30 but that’s close but not it ? Or am I wrong

31.6 or something, cant remember lol but was very close. i went with that. Its hot as hell and i wanted to get out of the sun.

Base/legs and top will be together tomorrow.
Do you know SOHCAHTOA?

If not, it’s gonna be trial and error. :D

Or line the board up and mark it with a straight edge.

What or who are you planning on doing on that heavy duty desk?

This looks a lot like the one I had built. We had the epoxy done on ours and it really looks good. Dang thing is heavy as anything.
