Built a tractor boom/lift

I have studied this for a while and decided because my tractor is small and lift range is shorter than bigger tractors that I needed a pivot style boom. This style gives you much more range of motion but sacrifices a percentage of ultimate lift power.

I designed it to work with my existing 3point triangle hitch, the boom simply replaces the top link.

I used 1-1/4 ID schedule 40 (about 1-5/8 OD) and cut it at 72". I welded 1x1/4 strap on the top as the brace spaced 6" at the peak. I then welded two feet of 1x1/4 strap with holes spaced every 6" as the lifting point. I can move the hook to any hole for more leverage or more range as needed.

I took it back off and washed with purple power and it is drying in the sun. I will prime and paint later today.

It will be nice to lift heavy stuff from the truck or trailer with this and even lift big firewood blocks to move them. I like it and because I built it myself I will enjoy using it even more.

Ok, primed with etching primer and painted black satin Krylon Dual Bond which is the best spray paint you can buy in my opinion.

Looks good Paul! The only thing that I see that I'd do differently is to us a clevis chain hook rather than a clevis slip hook. Then you could adjust the length of a chain by changing where you hook it.

That's look great . But a question. Did you put a sleeve in the bolt in the center?

No, I looked for something to use but everything I found was too loose or the pin wouldn't go in it. If it becomes a problem I will revisit it. Other implements I have don't have a sleeve where the pin goes through so I will just see what happens.

That is some really nice work there. A word of caution. With the length you have made the boom it probably will be fairly easy to lift the front wheels off the ground. Be careful how much weight you put on it.
I have 2 100lb weights for the front. It is light at only 1800lbs and I have lifted the front a time or 2 moving my big trailer with it loaded down with mulch or compost. Putting it in 4wd helps it steer LOL.

That's like a thin chef ..
Y'all dont remember when I got it? It has very low hours but sat outside for many years. I had the sheet metal sand blasted and powder coated. I put new lift arms and all new links on it. I keep it washed but it won't see much action until we move to Surry.

Cool. I have a little wire welder that I bought to try and learn on. Haven't spent much time with it though. I'd love to fab up something with a hydraulic cylinder to apply down pressure to the auger. Be able to pop holes in the red clay that we live on from the driver's seat. Now I have to strap on an extension arm and pull down on that with my Foreman's winch. The clay is tough to get through.

Great job and you're going to love it. I don't use mine often but when you need it, nothing beats it. I have a 3pt. adapter for my Bobcat I attach mine to. Helped a friend relocate a hot tub. Was able to reach in over the tub, run straps under the tub and up to the boom pole and lift the whole thing off the deck. Put it and the Bobcat on the trailer and take the hot tub to it's new location. It just took the two of us to handle all that weight and move things around. Boom poles are a real back saver.

Nice looking boom pole. Granddad used his with a set of these log tongs and moved a many of trees and firewood over the years so it didn't drag it in the dirt as bad. Many of moments with the front wheels in the air of a Massey 135 as well. Lol

I was going to say that. I had one when I had a Massey 1035. I spent more time with the front wheels in the air than not when using it. Be careful, tractors are dangerous with all four wheels on the ground! Looks good Paul!

Used it to move a few things today. It is a back saving wonder of engineering.

Have not used the dirt scoop yet, but maybe tomorrow. I need some dirt from the field in front of the house.

That's awesome. I've got the equipment here to build myself a trailer hitch for the 3 point, never the time to put it together. After that I may borrow a few of your ideas for a book pole. I don't use my tractor as much as I would like but you can't beat having one when they are needed.
