This discussion is premature because I don't yet have the 6.5 Ruger Precision, but quite some time back I was looking at optics and was considering two Burris models.I know there is an optics sections, but it seems this would be a better place to discuss optics for long range.

Any suggestions are appreciated. (Full disclosure - I should get a discount on the Burris glass/rings which is why I am focusing (pun intended) on using them.)

The XTR is an awesome scope. Very highly regarded. The only difference between the two is 5x magnification? Then get whichever you like. Me, I'd get the 4-20, just because it's Wednesday.

Sniper Central did a review (it's the 3-15 magnification, but all the bells and whistles are the same):

Either get the horus reticle in the 4x20 or get the FDE in the 5x25 because FDE is the new tacticool.

All are nice. I have used the 3.5-15x, 5-25x both are great optics.

If you want I can quote you a great deal on them.

Would really appreciate thoughts on the aforementioned horus reticle. I was leaning toward MOA.

Horus is awesome if you don't want to dial, it looks really busy at first but within the first range trip you'll probably be looking through it without any issue. I can't speak to the Burris side, hence the call out to John, but the reviews are looking great.

If the turrets match the reticle (MOA-MOA or MIL-MIL) it isn't bad. The problem comes in when turrets don't match (MIL-MOA) and creats more math when dialing. Like what BurnedOutGeek said, the horus reticle is nice for hold overs giving you a simple aiming point through the scope and not playing the guessing game.

It's easier, for sure. But mil/MOA is just fine. Just takes practice.

Still trying to decide if I am going for the Horus on the scope. I suppose since I'm going to be new to precision shooting it might be a great choice since I really would only have to learn one method as this will probably be my only long range rifle/scope combination.
