i had an XTRii and wasn’t ever impressed with the glass clarity. I now run two gen 2 vipers. Love those. But I’ve got two more optics to buy.
One will be a Nikon black fx1000 for an Ar but I want to get a nicer glass to swap out with one of my vipers.

Anyone have hands on time with a XTR3? They run $200 more than I can get a gen 2 razor for.

Buy the razor, surprised about your findings with the xtrii. I pitted them against the viper gen 2 and found a totally different outcome. Every viper gen ii we tested sucked at higher mags the xtrII killed it as far as clarity but could just be different eyes. Another one that can be had around the viper price is the leupold LRP and it smokes the vipers. Razors are good not great, Vipers are a bit junky imo. On the used market you still cannot beat the Bushnell Tact. elite, they can be had cheap now for the older gen 1 offerings and are light years past any pst viper II scope. Never a fan of Nikon, maybe they have changed the crapola tin foil reticles now haven't looked through one lately.

WARNING: Stay away from S&B pmII, looking through them will end up costing you lots of money. Ignorance is bliss

no way I would consider a burris over a gen 2 razor.... The razor gen 2 is on par with the S&B pm2....

My experience as well. I run all Gen II Razors now and have owned 7 S&Bs and ran multiple 5-25s from 2006 on my match rifles and like the Razor II better. Better knobs, reticles and glass for me is a push.

Little experience with Vortex, but have been happy with all of the Burris scopes I have had (a handful of MTAC and XTRii).
Everyone with a tactical type rifle should own or try a RT6. That's my favorite under $400 scope of all time. The Ballistic CQ reticle is the shiznit.

who are you? acting like you are some long range shooting/scope reviewing bad ass with a rifle that has flames on it!!! glad to see you still here Rob! Hope to get to shoot with you one of these days!

Lol yup still here. Dorian hasn't blown me away yet. Trying to shoot as much as I can so I am sure we will bump into each other.

I own both and I am happy with them. My next purchase may be something like the Vortex Golden Eagle. I need to check and see if Burris makes a similar product.

Hey Rob. Which razor are you running? I’m playing with the idea of selling both of my vipers to get one razor. Not sure if I want the 3 to 18 or the 4.7 to 25

I have both. If you want to get one Razor then get the 4.5-27. You get more on the high end and the small difference on the low end won't be noticed.

4.5-27 is the way to go. I owned both. I now only own 4.5-27... They weigh almost the same.

I have a few razors because they were in my price range. They have been sent back after finding out that the eyepiece was loose. And when I say loose i mean the reticle would move over 2 inches at 100 yards just by putting a little pressure on the eyepiece. I've shot quite a few s&b's in prs matches and my opinion they are better than the razors.

I have the kahles k624i now and love it. I'll be selling the razors soon to purchase a k525. Just my 2 cents on the razor. I dont have much experience with the Burris.

Holy Cow!!! I'm so behind the times. My lack of knowledge has only been exceeded by my lack of interest until lately. My interest is only so I can Listen to a conversation and tell what folks are talking about. My short guns carry Red Dots and my bolt guns [that are short too] all have Fixed power 4s of the Weaver brand on them. When I was coming along That was the standard that all had to compare to. I recently saw a post by Clint Smith where he said if he could do 2 things to help people that come to Thunder Ranch for rifle courses and LEs across America it would be to shorten their stocks by one inch and cut their optic power in half.

I'm listening and I am appreciative of the info.

what Razor do you have and how much are you looking for? I have heard problems like this with the viper... not so much with the Razor Gen 2 scopes...

@BatteryOaksBilly , when I head your way I'll bring a Swarovski Z6i 1-6 x 24 and let you look through it. You will be amazed! Its up there with the optic clarity of the S&B's...

I've had good luck with Vortex for the price point it is offered at. I did a test for Troy Industries several years back using a Vortex and it worked well for our purposes. No hands-on experience with Burris. As stated above, the Kahles is a fantastic optic for the money.

We got two conversations here: one about high powered variable optics, and one about low power variable optics!!

Sightron SIII......very good glass.

No hands on experience with Sightron either. I hear good things from folks who run their products. I'd like to try one at some point.

The website says they are an NC located company. Any idea if they are a manufacturer, or an importer?
