I'm looking at two Pitt Boss models.

This one at Lowe's.

And this one at Wally World.

Leaning toward the Pro series at Lowe's for the wifi/Bluetooth control.

Any others in this price range I should be looking at?

More money than the pit boss, but we have an Oklahoma joe pellet grill. We replaced a traeger with it. Absolutely love it. Has a ton of cooking room and it’s built heavy like Oklahoma joe wood burning smokers. We’ve had this one for three years and used the crap out of it. If it ever dies, we’ll buy another one.

I have a traeger, we like it but pellet grills aren't what I thought they would be. I wouldn't buy another traeger. They have a good purpose of used while understanding their limitations. I have found that the quality of the pellet is where the difference is. Of the two you have shown, the larger hopper is a nice thing as it sucks to have to fill the hopper, but it's a minor problem on long cooks.
The fact that they have a 1000 degree seer feature is nice. It looks like one has wifi and the other doesn't. That is my favorite feature, I thought it was dumb at first, but I can be at the store and check on the temp, adjust, change to a seer or add extra smoke all from my phone. It's nice and convenient if you're doing an overnight cook, i don't have to go outside to check it. I think for the price point either is fine, if you want the added WiFi then go that route, otherwise I think they both look fine. Maybe look for reviews for both on YouTube or a third party seller to get more reviews outside of Lowe's or Walmart.

I bought a Grilla Grills Silverback AT a few years ago..... it's still going strong despite my best efforts to kill it.... not kidding.

Anything I've broken or incinerated on it, they have replaced without question.... they even sent me the spray paint to fix the outside after I caught i on fire.

I like pellet grills, they don't produce as rich of smoke flavor as charcoal or wood burners, but they win on convenience. And you can always add a pellet tube to bump up the smoke.

Don't expect a good sear and you have to be a big more meticulous with cleaning.... ask me how I know 😂

I’ve considered a pellet grill. Not 100% convinced it’s what I need.

I inherited a BGE about 6 years ago. I am to the point now where I don’t even check it half time I’m cooking mug because I know it’s going to be find on the slow cooks. It will get to 800 and sear whatever.

Works when electricity is out and just burns lump charcoal. I’ve also ran good ol fashion aKinfaford as well as just chunks of wood

I just recently put a 12x20 roof over my outdoor grill area and looking for ideas for a second option. Also eyeballing a Blackstone. .

I also have a Blackstone and two Stok kettle charcoal grills. This will replace a Pitt Boss Memphis Ultimate but I've got charcoal and griddle capability covered in my outdoor kitchen.

I LOVE my Blackstone.

Also, I'm NOT opposed to spending more if need be to get a better product IF there is a case for it. I am not one to spend more for a name.

I shoot Glocks and Rugers not HKs and Sigs in other words.

I’d get a stick burner over a pellet burner, such as a lang reverse flow.

I have the austin xl. I'll stick with pit boss from he on out. Unless you NEED the Bluetooth the austin is the best bang for the buck

Three things…

1. I’ll send you $100 to not buy anything from Lowe’s.

2. I have a Camp Chef pellet smoker, with a sear box I’ll give you if you get and hour SW of CLT. It needs a good cleaning but should be fully functional, dry kept.

3. Look at a Masterbuilt gravity fed charcoal smoker, same concept as pellets, but burns lump or briquette charcoal. To me, better results than a pellet burner.

Edit: Masterbuilt gravity fed smokers can be had at Wally World, where I got mine.

That’s like someone thinking about getting their kid a hamster and suggesting a horse instead 😂

No doubt the stick burner turns out a premium product, but a stick burner is a hobby not just a cooking tool. The pellet grill lets you have 90% as good of a product while chasing kids, doing yard work or sleeping.

My wife can start smoking some steaks on the pellet grill for a reverse sear while I’m at work or turn up the heat and grill chicken thighs. She wouldn’t be starting a chimney of coals and grabbing some splits from the shed to get the stick burner going.

You’ve got the wrong stick burner. The lang I’ve used (not mine, but I’m envious) was minimal effort to achieve a far superior product. Dried pecan in a stick burner lights up quick and easy.

Unfortunately most people starting out on stick burners buy a $400 Oklahoma Joe and not an entry level Lang that’s about $3k after shipping.
Still easier to grab a bag of pellets from tractor supply than finding and storing dried pecan.
No debate which is better, but that’s a decision if the operator wants that much investment in time and money versus something to cook on 2-3 times a week instead of their range.
