They were working the event they they would be part of the security detail.
One designated LEO could have the five other service weapons, the other five would
continue to have their spare magazines inside the building.

So were they working as security or just inside the bar? That part is still unclear to me.

I too agree with the “legal limit” concept. I think the total prohibition is just one more example of fear projection. As Massad Ayoob put it, if you can’t have a few and not become an ass that can’t be trusted with a gun, you shouldn’t have a gun at all, even sober.
