I have a lower that I bought as a stripped lower. It has been a rifle now for a bunch of years. Can I legally now use that same lower to build an AR pistol? I'm thinking the answer is yes and also realizing as I type that no one would ever know what I had it built as if I bought it only as a lower. Other question is can you just put a pistol brace on a normal carbine buffer tube to make an AR pistol?

If it was a Pistol first then you can make it a pistol again after having it as a rifle.

•If you originally built it as a rifle, it can’t legally ever be a pistol. It will look like a pistol, but it’s actually an SBR because it falls under the “weapon made from a rifle” definition.

•As you mentioned, if you hadn’t posted it online, who would ever know?

•If you attached the upper before you installed the stock, you technically built a pistol first…so you can go back to a pistol configuration.

•Some braces, like the SBA3, work on normal buffer tubes.

Its never a bad idea to make sure your uppers fit on a fresh, unbuilt lower your working on.... funny that I always use a 16in plus barrel upper for it.
