So with the demise of Walmart my ammo needs have become a nightmare. I like to take visitors from Germany to the range for "the experience". I am usually a bit tight on cash so I can't just go and order 100K rounds at a time and have it shipped to me on a flatbed...

The thing that was great about Walmart was that I usually need a few boxes of 3-4 different calibers and they had all of it and the price was reasonable so I just had to find the guy with the key to the ammo (you know what I mean) and I was happy.

Sure there is ammoseek and it does a great job at giving you the best prices for any given caliber. The problem is I need the best price for a source for 3-4 diferent calibers COMBINED. It does me no good to get the best price for 1 caliber and get fleeced on the others.

Can somebody please write an app for that?

Best I can advise if you're usually tight on cash is to change your buying habits.

Find that reasonable price you're willing to spend and make it a habit to buy a box or two whenever you visit the place. Years ago, back when Walmart still carried ammo and WWB was $19.95 for a 100 round box of .45 ACP and $9.95 for a 100 round box of 9mm, I'd make sure I set aside a $20 bill in my wallet every payday. When I went to Walmart for something else, I'd be sure to pick up $20 worth of either. Once a payday for a number of months when you're not shooting much and it adds up.

If you buy online, do the same thing.

Interestingly, I was just at a gun show last weekend with @GoWolfpack and the ammo prices were surprisingly reasonable. If they're getting reasonable at gun shows, then they've got to be getting reasonable elsewhere.

Are these Germans here for work?

At my old job, we had Germans, Chechs, Mexican, French, Brazilian, and Chinese visitors often, and they all wanted to shoot guns and drive a truck or a mustang.

I took one Chinese colleague shooting. Since it was just him and me, I ate the cost. But if I (or another coworker) was "entertaining" a group, the cost of the ammo was expensed and we were reimbursed by the company.

I think the closest I can get to expensing a trip to the range is a driving range…

Walmart hasn’t sold pistol or “short barrel rifle” ammo in several years now. Try to find another store that carries everything you need; Academy has always have decent prices. Or just find a site you like and order online. Tons of good places out there to get ammo from and prices seem to be getting better all the time. It’s really not that difficult to find ammo nowadays..

No longer the cheapest around but www.OutdoorLimited.com has become competitive, has a broad selection and ships free with $200 (if you don’t want to will call in High Point).
Outdoor Limited is where I order from. It is easy to search by price per round and you can fill up your cart with different calibers easily. Even though it is only 30 min away from me, it is very convenient to get them to deliver, especially if I order more than $200 (which almost always anyway)

Yeah, it's called a spreadsheet. List each company and the prices for each caliber and tally the total cost from each company to compare. It will take work. I think trying to find a best combined price for mutiple calibers at a given point in time is sub-optimal. Prices ebb and flow for different calibers at different times. Part of it has to do with production runs. One caliber might be cheap and another goes up.
Don't buy it all at once. Distribute your purchases and cost. Search Ammoseek for best price on a specific caliber and buy the deal. It might be a different caliber next week. I think most of us have an idea of current pricing and look out for deals as they pop up and buy when they do.

They are but sadly expensing it is not an option, they are just lowly interns ;-)

I looked at that as well, they do have semi okay prices on 9mm but no boxes of 7.62x54R.

That's exactly my point, I don't have the time to spend hours on curating a spreadsheet every time I need to buy a few boxes of ammo. That's the need for single caliber purchases that ammoseek is fullfilling, I just wish it could do the same for multiple calibers. Don't say it's impossible, it is not it's just a question of computing power and somebody putting it together IMHO.

And no, I don't suffer from insomnia. It's my old dog roaming at night.

I ended up ordering some Sellier&Belot 9mm froam a place called GrabAGun, very reasonable price and shipping. May use them again.

The place I ordered from shipped the next day, I am happy with them so far.

Hadn’t heard this news. The only ammo I buy from WM is cheap birdshot, 100rd boxes. Glad I stocked up last year.

Otherwise, save up and buy cases online, or Academy if you only need a few boxes.

I’ve gotten good prices and free shipping from Bereli

The last real outing I had was in 2017.

I think things have gotten a little tricky with expensing ammo since then. Thanks Politics.

There is a site online called Gun Prime, I ordered from them in the past. You have to watch though for sales as some prices are not a bargain. However, at least they didn't charge sales tax when I ordered last November.
Maybe this has changed since then.

So if I'm understanding your request correctly you want someone to be your personal ammo buyer instead of doing like the rest of us do, work for it by searching sites. Hmmm, would you possibly be a millennial?

No I am 53 years old and tired of having to do this BS work just because Walmart bailed out of ammo (really mad about that) and while there's an app for just about every chicken shit question these days there isn't one for that. Rant over.
