Can someone clear up a CCW law question for me?

I live in SC but very close to NC. Because of my proximity, when I took my CCW class, the instructor went over a few laws in NC and how they are a little different.
One of things he said (and he mentioned it a few times) is that in NC, you cannot carry a backup gun concealed. You can only carry one firearm.
I cant find anything recent that states this is true or not.
Is he full of crap?

Unless something has changed, you can carry as many pistols concealed as you want in NC. In NC, your CCW permit only covers pistols. Not knives, batons, tasers, or rifles/shotguns.

I've heard people say this before but don't think that it has been tested in court etc.

The rationale is that the Statutes only refer to concealed handgun in singular terms...seems like too much home lawyering and not enough holiday inn express...

I've been pulled over with two concealed handguns and three more riding on the seat next to me in NC (Franklin County).

Cop was curious why I had so many but other than that it was fine. Although he did ask me to review and clear the Taurus 709 so he could try it on for size and trigger, his wife was after a new carry and that had been suggested for her.

I like the edit. Id be cool if a cop asked me to do that

Well I halfway knew the guy, we shopped at the same fun store. Where I ended up working for several years actually.

I've found that cops in rural areas of rural counties often have a lot less to prove and freak out less when you inform them you're a CCW holder. The usual response I got was "you leave yours alone, I'll leave mine alone."

Just to chime in with everyone else.

There is no limit.

I was rear ended a number of years ago and had to be transported to the ED by ambulance. I told the responding officer about the gun on my belt, the backup in the console and the revolver in the floor safe. He kinda chuckled and made a joke about me being more heavily armed than him but otherwise didn't blink an eye. I had to store them all in the truck and lock it up for my inlaws to retrieve later. I naturally couldn't take them in the ambulance.

I think the confusion stems from the definition of Concealed Carry in the statute:

14-415.10. Definitions.
The following definitions apply to this Article:
(1) Carry a concealed handgun. – The term includes possession of a concealed handgun.

I've heard people argue that this language indicates permission for only a single handgun. I think that's a very weak argument.

That's the gist of it..... and I agree with your assessment.

Nice of him to cover some NC law but he should ensure it’s 100% correct. No limit. Never heard of anyone having an issue with multiple pistols.

I understand the argument but it’s a weak one.
