**Can this be a sticky?**We should start a tool loan thread!

Some have tools and some need tools. Maybe for a 12 pack or a deposit we can have a loaner program.
What do y'all think? If AR15.com can do it, so can we!
Sounds like a great idea.

Cool. Would it be possible to sticky this post?

I’ll join in. I’ve got:

AK/SKS Front sight tool
AR front sight tool
Glock front sight replacement tool
I also keep small parts for AR/1911/Glock platforms. If you a send detent flying across the garage and don’t want to wait on brownells to deliver the replacement PM me and I’ll also let you borrow my tool that prevents loosing them so easy.

I live in Pender County near Wallace and work in Burgaw.

I've got a Dillon swaging tool if anyone needs to process a bunch of military 5.56 brass.
Near Fayetteville or ship on your dime.
$50.00 deposit unless you're over 1,000 posts here, or someone can vouch for you.

Welp, don’t wanna impose...if someone could mail/meetup/lend a sight pusher, I have to drift my bodyguard sights as my ocd is really letting me have it that they’re not centered...or I’ll just remove them altogether. I had to sell my guns after surgery and bought a 2016 bodyguard with misaligned sights. I’ll never use them with this gun but it’s bugging the heck outta me.

If it’s a better deal than my local smith, I’d be thrilled. #poorbastard. I’ve got feedback on csc
My BG came with sights very much off center and it quite pissed me off. On the second trip back to S&W for something else, they finally adjusted them.

And how do you intend to handle tools that are returned damaged, never returned?? "It was like that when I got it" "It wasn't like that when I sent it back" "I never received it" "I sent it last Thursday"... (excuses I've heard in the past)...
Been there, done that. If I have something you need, come to my place and use it... If you're too far away, I'm sorry..

I agree. I borrowed a sight pusher from a generous nearby member. After finishing the job, I realized I'd damaged the pushing block and felt awful about it. Somehow I was able to contact the manufacturer and buy a new block which allowed me to return the tool as if it were brand new. If I loaned out a tool and received it back damaged, that'd be the last time for me.

Seems there are enough of us scattered around the Carolinas that we could mostly do the work at the tool owner's location.

Yes we are all aware of the risks, hence the deposit system. We also understand that some people may choose to not participate, and that is totally acceptable. Don’t even stress over it if you’re not willing to mail your item to someone and/or are worried about something. Not a big deal.

Unless the "deposit" will cover the replacement cost it doesn't matter. In my case the borrower claimed to know how to use a muzzle facing cutter and a crowning tool. Well, come to find out, he didn't and I got back 2 ruined cutters and 2 bent pilots. Replacement cost, 225.00.... Lesson learned, priceless....

What a jerk. Sorry that happened.

I guess I assumed we’d be dealing with those local to our area. None of my tools are expensive enough to justify shipping charges and a deposit. But for a six pack you can come pick something up and use it for the afternoon or I’d even be happy to assist you with whatever you’re doing.

BTW, I like Killians ;)

This is pretty much what I had in mind when creating this thread.

Have some Killians I can borrow?

I have one of these. Work in Greensboro, live in Sophia.

I was blessed by the RimfireCentral 'Pay It Forward'. Some knucklehead sent the tool with bad drill bit, I made sure it went to the next fellow with a new one.

I'm in Rutherford County, NC. Can offer assistance with AR upper and lower building, Glock sight pushing, and basic beating on stuff with a hammer.

Well...good question.

If I were to get involved in this, here are my expectations:

If I were the borrower, I'd immediately contact the person who loaned me the tool and offer a settlement, be it a replacement with a new tool or monetary settlement for cost of repair/replacement. Because it's only fair, and to be honest it's only going to cost me what I WOULD have had to pay for the tool in the first place.

If I were the loaner, I would AT LEAST expect the borrower to be up-front about any damage and we can discuss it from there, based on the tool in question. I would expect an offer to repair/replace just because that's what I would do. However, some small tools that I might have several "just laying around", I'd probably just say "pay it forward". Sometimes it's just the gesture that counts.

IN ALL CASES I would expect the borrower to contact the loaner and be up-front. There should be no ill-will so long as this happens because sometimes sh*t happens. As someone at work is fond of saying, "Ain't nothing but a thing".

Can someone explain to me when a sight pusher became something other than a brass punch, and why? Maybe I need understand why I should be using one.

@RetiredUSNChief, the cutters this person screwed up both have precisely aligned cutting surfaces and are meant to be used by hand with liberal lubricant and a guiding pilot. When Goofy decided to chuck them into a hand drill and use NO lubricant, well you can imagine the result. And if that wasn't bad enough he also owned a Dremel tool and proceeded to "re-sharpen" and "re-align" the cutting edges... And then said that's how they were when he received them.... Oh well....

Sad.

Like I said...it's only right to stand up for what happened and make good on it. Sh*t happens...whether through ignorance, inexperience, or accident. The measure of a person is in how they respond when it happens.

If I damage/break a tool...well then I owe SOMEBODY a replacement. Whether that somebody is myself or someone else, the cost is still the same.

Besides...sometimes it's also a good deal for the loaner...like if the tool is part of a set and the only way to get it is to buy the set. Congratulations! You're now the proud owner of an entire new set! :D
